what rims (24inch)

what are the best rims for unicycling?
i am in the uk, and have looked at :
mavic D521/D321
Halo Combat
Sunn Mammoth/rhyno lite/doublewide

looking for something strong for muni and drops etc.

come on guys, 24 views yet no-one has an opinion?

/me has a Halo Combat rim. It is white and pretty. /me likes it; /me likes it a lot.

Plus, not only is it good for muni it’s also great for hacking through undergrowth when totally lost in a forest. Can’t be bad.

Phil, just me

Re: what rims (24inch)

Mavic D531 and D321 are only available in 26" I believe

Halo Combat is good and cheap

If you want one up on that, talk to me and I will get you the new version,
not on the site yet but it is welded as well as being pinned, costs more
though.

Sun have some really nice rims but again there are not many available in the
UK and even fewer that are 24"

Hope this helps

Roger

Re: what rims (24inch)

I’m not aware of the selection in the UK, but I would have to say the Alex
DX32.
Super wide, excellent braking surface, super strong.

Re: what rims (24inch)

Alex DX 32 is not available in 24" in Europe except by special import that
makes it very expensive.

I’ve been using a Sun BFR since November, and I haven’t needed to true it once. Did I mention that I weigh 180 pounds, and I ride hard. I’ve done lots of 3 foot plus drops, destroyed cranks, and the rim just keeps saying “Give me more…is that all you’ve got?” I’ probably go with a widewr rim when I build up my Profile hub this winter. What ever rim I go with, I hope it’s as strong as the BFR.

Although narrower than the Alex or Doublewide (what isn’t?) the BFR is impressively strong. I’v hit hard enough on rock edges and concrete to hear the metal ring like a bell (and turn heads!)- without any distortion.

The Alex is at a great size/streangth/weight/price point.
