what is ISIS?

Hi I keep sseing the term ISIS Cranks or ISIS Axle. What exactly is ISIS?
What are the advantages?

I think it’s an international standard they use for making cranks and hubs. The advantages are that you can fit different cranks on different hubs(in theory). It came from the bicycle world.
But I don’t know much, so I could be wrong. Just posting because I have nothing better to do.

The full name is ISIS Drive. ISIS Drive is an open standard for a splined interface between the bottom bracket spindle (or unicycle hub spindle) and the cranks. It is an open standard that is free of penitent issues and is available for manufacturers to implement. So manufacturers are able to make compatible parts that conform to the ISIS Drive standard without worrying about patent issues. It is stronger and stiffer than the traditional square tapered interface.
