WHat instruments do you play?

I have not seen many music-related threads, so here is one. Is anyone in a band? even a school band?

personally, i have been playing the saxophone for around 6 years and the clarinet for around 2.

I play guitar (4 years?) trumpet (4 years) I would really like to learn to play slide guitar, ukelele, bass, + drums lol. I am in the school band + jazz band and occasionally (2 times a yr) play with another guitarist a bass player and drummer.

I play the slide whistle and the wash board. Used to play the spoons and the
mouth harp. One day I’d like to play the accordion.

I play the piano, guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and saw.

tapeman, dont play the ukelele. people immediately assume that you are a douchebag. the kids who walk around with them at my high school are all douches. but if you carry around a guitar then you are even worse. the only instrument that is cool to walk around with is a sousaphone.

I play the soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone as well as the piano and guitar

As for bands I’m in, i’m in the school’s highest level band and the jazz band.

I play a mean blues harp, and I’m a hack guitarist.

I’ve played the euphonium for almost 7 years, and the trombone for 6. I’m currently a double major in music and philosophy at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, but transferred there after spending two years at the University of North Texas to study euphonium. I also worked last summer, and will soon be leaving to continue working, at Brook Mays Music in Dallas, mostly repairing flutes.

I play the banjo, primarily bluegrass but with attempts at more progressive material. Bela Fleck is why I started playing… well worth the listen if you are inclined.

drums

Bass, guitar, drums. Used to be the lead singer of a post-punk experimental band for several years in the early 90’s. Been working as a recording engineer since then. :sunglasses:

I used to play the Euphonium, but now I’m sure I’d be terrible as I am very out of practice. Same goes for the piano. I dabbled in bass guitar for a while, but was just borrowing Alex’s, so when he went to college, he took it back.

I have been a member of the same student brassband for 42 years!
(I also play in other brassbands).
though I do not know music I can play almost any brass (I own ten : from mini-trumpet to sousaphone) but my prefered one is the flügelhorn. When I’ll retire I’ll get serious about it and try to really play well :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW: l want to buy a Boosey & Hawkes flügelhorn; those are not built any more so a used one wil be ok. Please tell me if you know about one for sale!

The only thing I claim to play properly is clarinet, but I play half-decent saxophone, guitar, ukelele (so I’m apparently a douche), bass (guitar), recorder, hacky/by ear only piano. I’ve dabbled with (in no particular order) flute, fife, oboe, accordion, chromatic harmonica, blues harp, theremin (properly, not just silly noises!), mandolin (but I wimped out and tuned it like a ukelele), nose flute, organ, french horn, trumpet (I don’t get on with brass instruments). I’ll give anything a go - never really tried to play any bowed string instruments though. At the moment if I’m in a musical mood I seem to be mostly picking up the guitar or bass.

Band-wise, I played clarinet and saxophone in a semi-classical/military style wind band for a few years, and also played “reserve” to a Dixieland/“Trad” jazz band (Alice’s Wonderland Band :)) playing the low-paid gigs when their usual woodwind player went elsewhere for more money
That was all in my late teens/early 20s. Since then I’ve played guitar in a few short-lived punk and goth style bands, but nothing really serious.

Rob

I played drums for a year then I got into unicycling.

Bela Fleck is the shizzle.

I played the recorder when I was little then I tried the alto recorder but my fingers were to short. Now I play the piano (for about 9-10 years already :astonished: ). Well and since last summer (or was it the summer before?) I can play the accordeon.

Cool thread, I was thinking of starting a band one.

I’ve played the French horn for 5 years and I’m getting pretty good now. I’m going (hoping) to make the Texas all- state band next year (students in Texas grades 9-12 audition) my older brother is really good at clarinet and has already made all state.

I used to go to the brook mays In Plano before it closed, the one in Dallas is too far away.

playing the french horn, you already have a good chance of making any honor band. for you nonband geeks, that is because french horn players are uncommon

i apologize to any real ukelele players out there–it’s just that it really bugs me when people walk around acting all cool because they can play three chords on a guitar/ukelele
