What has happened to our Solar System?

As far back as I can remember, there has always been 9 planets. Now we are being told there are only 8. We even had a sentence that helped us remember the 9 planets and their order from the Sun.

“Mark’s Very Extravigant Mother Just Sent Us Ninety Parakeets”.

Now the birds have flown the coup.

I always believed my teachers when they said “9 planets”. Now it turns out it was all a big lie. Just a hoax. What else did the teachers tell us that is not true? Mrs. Grant, how could you? We trusted you in the 6th grade. Now we don’t know what to believe.

[sigh]
:frowning:

I thought they were thinking about adding extra ones

You believed the teachers. Thats too bad.
It’s all propaganda. Have you ever heard of the underground history of american education?

In my day they weren’t afraid of being seductive and inculcating us with hidden heterosexuality.

It was: Mary’s Velvet Eyes Make John Stay Up Nights Period.

…and my sister’s 4th grade teacher in Appalachia taught her that the word ‘door’ was two syllables. She even clapped out the syllables for the class.

I think that pluto should be a plant. it was discoverd and considered one of are 9 planets since the 1930s. how come it took them so long to discover it was not?

Here ya go.

That’s even worse. I am having trouble getting my head around the fact that Pluto is no longer a major heavenly body. If I have to start looking amongst the weeds in the garden for it I shall go mad.

Nao

I heard about this on the morning news.

Not Earth shattering news but definitely Pluto shattering news.

The biggest concern seems to be how this will affect astrological forecasts.

I’m disturbed (in oh so many ways). Pluto’s been a planet for my whole life. What did it do so wrong to be stripped of it’s rank? Why, the elimination of a planet;

Might Very Easily Make Juggling Stargazing Unicyclists Nervous

I wonder if it will be eligible for unemployment benefits?

About 2,500 members of the IAU, a community of astronomers from around the world, have been meeting since late last week to debate and vote on a series of resolutions that include definitions of solar-system bodies.

What’s in a name? Who says science isn’t socially constructed? Maybe we should start a campaign for the replanetation of Pluto? What happens if the aliens from Pluto find out that we be dissin’ on their hood?

I’d be more worried about the aliens from Uranus finding out what most english speaking people actual hear when someone says “Uranus”. Especially “Klingons were found around Uranus”.

Ah, the age old discussion of similarities between the starship Enterprise and toilet paper.

It’s not so much that they decided that Pluto was not a planet, but that they made a stricter definition of what a planet is. So now Pluto is a “dwarf planet” which it’s own set of rules. There are several other dwarf planets in our solar system so if we include all of them in sciene class our mnemonic devices will actually get longer not shorter.

Bourgeois democracy.

I just hope the Unicycling Bourgeoise Democracy doesn’t come up with a stricter definition of what a unicycle is.

Social constructionism is getting out of hand!

Excellent idea! Replanetation Now!

How’s this for a bumper sticker?
“Malicious Voting Experts Mustn’t Just Scratch Unpopular Ninth Planet

thats what i thought

that is a pretty cool bumper sticker
