somthing is not right with the Unicyclist.com Search function.i only got 24 pages with a hit for the word “unicycle” and only 2 pages for the word “brake” none for the word “lever”
Try google.
Searching for “lever” now shows this thread and one other. The results seem to only go back a few days. I searched for “uni57”, which until recently, I had signed all my posts. But I only got stuff from the last couple days – none of my old posts.
Maybe the search index needs to be rebuilt.

I had the same problem the other day. I was trying to find the thread on poison ivy, and when I put in the search nothing came up. I had to go through about 8 pages line by line to find it. It was there, but nothing came up under the search.
This could be a real problem for someone like me who has only been here a short while. I always try to search a topic before posting a question that may have been answered 100’s of times. Hopefully whatever is wrong will soon be fixed.
Yes, I noticed last night when I searched “frankenyata” after I noticed that the handle on my muni is ripping, and got no hits.

sure does,i just got word from Mr.G that it does infact need to be rebuilt.
i guess that means that we will have to answer most newbie Que’s with somthing differant than “use the search!”.
its gonna be a rough week…
Send them to the Google Search
I keep a shortcut to the Google search for rec.sport.unicycling in my favorites.
Preach it brother. I have the same shortcut. The main disadvantage of Google is that is only sees RSU, not the other fora.

Oh, no! Not you too!
It’s forums, forums, forums!!!
Dave
It’s fora. Gilby even made a link which will accept either the correct plural, fora, or the incorrect plural, forums. Try
Out of curiousity, what does rebuilding the search index entail? Is this a Herculean task for an army of computer-oriented folk, or is it just a matter of reconfiguring the/a program to create a new index? As I am asking this question, it is clear that this is not something I am currently adept at, but I was wondering how one rebuilds a search index, and how does a search index lose itself in the first place?
thanks,
andrea
P.S. If the plural of ‘forum’ is an issue of some debate, perhaps we should create a new word entirely
(e.g. forums = fora = b’domfluxi)
(Ok, that was just silly…I will get off the computer now and just go back to quietly counting beetles…12 074, 12 075, 12 076…)
not sure…
but it looks like we have a five day data base in the search now.
i think we are rebuilding the search if you know what i mean but i hope all those old valueable threads arenot gone forever.
Interestingly if you search by username, you get a complete search.
Perhaps Greg, your natural immunity to “rational debate based on facts” (or at least how I think the quote goes) is at the heart of this, but according to both the American Heritage Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, and the Oxford English Dictionary “forums” is an acceptable plural of “forum”.

Clicking a button which starts a very server intensive process that goes through each post, one by one, and indexes what words are in it. It might be too intense for the server, so when doing it, I may have to close the forums or maybe I’ll just load the database on my workstation and create the index here.
