What do you do for a living?

I work at my moms wedding shop.

i live for a living

I am a sculptor and a soil scientist.

I build sculptures of interesting things, generally larger than they are in real life. It is fun.

Here’s me and a sculpture of an earthworm that I built in Lake County, Ohio.

that is awsome, i did sculpture this year in art and it was great fun.
i imagine that would look amazing in real life, surreal.

Thanks, It was fun to build.
When I had it in my studio, the nearly universal reaction from studio visitors was to hug it. A girl with whom I shared my studio used to jokingly kiss one end. I never told her that was back end she was kissing. hehe

Soil science and sculpture

That is SO cool!

Reminds me of the greatest piano tuner in history. His name was Oppirnawkity. He had one eccentricity in that he was so convinced of his prowess that he refused to believe that any piano he tuned would ever need tuning again. His motto? “Oppirnawkity never tunes twice”…

I dont have a job and hopefully never will.

What substance(s) is/are that sculpture made from?

You are one unusual woman, Blake.

my art teacher always tells me im doing it wrong how can u do wrong art thats the thing about art u do it however you want

That worm is made of a perlite, lime and gypsum plaster commercially sold as Structolite by USG.

I built it direct in plaster which has a putty-like character over a styrofoam core. I bought big floatation blocks of foam.

The structolite gets harder and tools nicely to a smooth finish. It is great for one-time installations like that. If I had to make a bunch of worms, I’d build them differently and cast them. It is then painted with a series of acrylic glazes with hardly any color in them. probably 50 thin coats. It gives it a depth to the surface and a slimy gloss.

Thanks for the compliment. You are unusual too, you scoopin’ one-wheeler! Steve yo, And thanks Patmoore. Glad you like the worm!

I went to art school for my undergrad. Wow there’s some heavy criticism there. Just roll with it, it’s her class, opinions. Do you own work at home. You may learn a thing here or there that you can choose to ignore if you want to later!

You’re welcome, and it was intended as such, and thanks right back atcha.

I suppose anyone on a unicycle is somewhat unusual.

no job + no money, last year of sixth form (yr 13) A levels first exam in january  eek!

Do you do freelance web design, or do you work for a company? Do you do both client and server side code, and if so, what languages and other technologies do you use?

I work as a high school counsellor. This year I scored a particularly interesting assignment at a cutting edge online education program. No students in the hallways, no bell schedules and no noon hour supervision. Just lots of emails, cell phone conversations, and time with my laptop in front of the fireplace at home.

I live off my girlfriends pay checks! Do i like it? Yes! Will i change and bring my own cash in? I havent thought that one threw to well. Will she kill me if i keep it up? More then likely but not until i get my new hubs and cranks  lol

Your parents probably hope you will.

dude you can make a good $20 and hour ,busking thats what i do

I’m a mental health nursing auxiliary. 'Tis muchos fun… Certainly keeps life interesting. I trained as a chef but became a bit bored of it, it was sapping he enjoyment I get from cooking.

Hopefully going to get on to do my nurse training in the next two years which would make me joyful. Just a shame the NHS is in such a state of flux at the minute. One of the acute Psych wards I work on was shut down a couple of weeks ago to save money… Yet the government can afford to spend £20 billion plus on a new nuclear weapon system and £x on an illegal war.

Make me angwy it do.

Hey Kit. Well done for getting started.

Don’t waste your emotions on the state of the NHS, it has learched from one crisis to another and has been in continual change ever since I started working for this wonderful institution 16 years ago. One of the advantages of cuts in the NHS is that the most poorly paid will be the most in demand for employment - so that should suit you well now.

(5 years ago we were importing hundreds of nurses from the Phillipines because we didn’t have enough of our own)
