Two days ago I heard an documentairy and monologue of the Dutch radioreporter Anton Foek who -I asume- took this picture on 11 sept. 1973 in Santiago.
He described what happened; the military music on the radio, the soldiers on the roofs -who shoot his window after apearing in his suite-, the planes, the bombing of the palace.
He also reported what was happening in the national sport-stadion… 5,000 killed, 10,000 missed, 100,000 tortured.
Not much later he was kidnapped by the secret service, almost killed, and then he became tortured himself.
A nun who came there into the department of defence for nursery saved his live by calling the embassy like he ask her to do.
The employee of embassy came and took him from a 6m. x 6m. cage, filled with 30 prisoner.
The MP who finaly signed his release declared “you will never return to this country”.
And even in 1989 (after Pinochet left) he was told he was not welcome, and had to leave by the same plane.
Ironicly Anton Foek started to live in NYC…
This year, after 30 years, he finaly was able to return for a visit to Chili.
