has anyone used a tablet before? i am looking at getting one for designing. at this point i can only afford the bamboo fun tablet from wacom. i have heard great reviews about this prodeuct so far but was wondering if any designer here has used one and has an opinion. i really want an intuos but can’t afford one yet. is it worth getting the bamboo fun for designing? from what i hear it is still a great tablet. i will be getting the 5.8x3.7. can’t afford the bigger one.
I have one of those!!! It’s awesome, I used to make some crazy animations with it! Really nice thing, I think I have the Bamboo one.
drugs are bad, mmkay?
I’m writing this with my new tablet. Hand writing recognition FTW! Tablets rock.
I plan on getting a tablet. Something about the size of a piece of paper. A bit expensive but always worth it.
Small ones also work just as well as bigger ones, but I like having the room a big one offers.
using tablets with software such as photoshop is awesome cause they are pressure sensitive so you can program pressure changes to change certain things. for instance you can draw and the the harder you push the thicker the line gets or maybe it changes color. you get the idea. awesome.
I have a Wacom Graphire4 graphics pad, and I use it with Adobe Master Suite CS4(works fine with GIMP/Paint.NET for you freeware users). I use it for everything, it has a wireless mouse as well as a stylus with 4 programmable buttons, and 500+ levels of sensitivity(INVALUABLE!). I didn’t spring for the Intuos originally, not realising how great of an effect it has on not only your ability to create but your level of efficiency, but I wish I had now.
I suggest you get either the bamboo or the graphire, and you’ll be more than satisfied.
I’m using the tablet instead of the mouse and when you get used to it, it is more efficient.
Even for things like surfing the web.
that must be so awesome!
I’ve wanted a tablet for ages but they seemed a little bit unnecessary.
does the writing recognition recognize script?
I have the Intuos3 6x8. I don’t regret the purchase at all. It’s a great tablet, the small size doesn’t effect drawing at all, and it has 1,024 levels of prssure sensitivity! I got mine for 200 dollars from amazon.com, when the normal price for it on Wacom’s website was 350!
The only problem I’ve ever had with it is that mine only has the programmable buttons on the left and I’m left handed. Once or twice I’ve ended up accidentally touching the scroll strip and it increases my brush size or zooms in. I just turned the scroll strip off.
Check to see if it has a feature that allows you to use it upside-down. If you can get it to show your work on the screen right-side up you’re good to go.
Never had a tablet of my own but I hear only good things. If you’re considering trying one, go for whatever you can afford. Then you can upgrade in the future when you know what features matter to you. You might be able to find used ones on eBay or something also…
I prefer Percoset tablets. The Wacom tablets are hard to swallow and the effects aren’t nearly as pleasant.
