Ok, I thought I’d run an unofficial photo-competition for the photos submitted on this thread:
Read this first before posting!
Rules:
Photo must be taken in 2006
It must be submitted in the above thread
Must have a unicycle in it (Rogers broken arm photo does not count!)
Vote for your favourite three in this order:
1 (best photo)= 3 points
2 (2nd best)= 2 points
3 (3rd best) = 1 point
You are allowed to vote for your own photo
Vote only once
If a new photo is submitted into the above thread after you have voted and you want to change your vote to include that photo, then make a new post with your three new rankings. Your first post will be removed from the results. Please state in your post that you are changing a previous vote.
Competition closes 20 Jan 2006
Prize to be decided. I’ll think of something Perhaps the title of The Unicyclist.com 2006 Photo Competition World Champion?
Submit it in the following format:
1 (best photo)

Photo description and who it is taken by (if different from the person posting it)

Third Place
I must say that 3rd place for me was close between Spencer’s first picture and Mango’s first picture. Having said that, I think that Spencer’s will have to be my pick for 3rd.
Spencer Hochberg
Spencer doing a seat drop in front of lake Tahoe on some rocks. Taken by
John Foss.

Just a note for whoever’s listening. Page # is not an accurate location method as the site allows you to customize page size, or # of posts per page. I’ll be along with my votes later on. Yup, I think I like that Spencer picture too!
Forget the page number thing- I thought it would make it easier to locate the photo but obviously not. Just write down the post number.
I like the Ntappin stairset photo (post #73) too…was going to tie it for third place with my vote. Then I realised it woudn’t work!
PLEASE do not tie photos because it effectively gives that person posting extra voting power. Any votes with tied photos (eg 2 x photos both 3rd equal) will be nulliefied in the results.
Also, the closing date for voting is 20 Jan 2007 not 2006
I was torn on my 3rd place vote…between two photos of Spencer. The vertical hair from Moab is classic, but I like his hand position in the balancing shot. It’s like he’s snake charming his unicycle seat.

Looks like Aspen Mike’s Snow MUni is the clear favourite so far.
Thanks for posting this. I’m just trying to make sense of the data tabulation, and hope you’ll bear with me as I’m easily confused. The way I’m reading this is that all first place (1), second place (2), and third place (3) votes are laid out for each photo, then added together, using the place of the vote as the weight. Do I have that right?
If that’s correct, then I question the weighting system, and here is why:
Photo A receives five first place votes (1, 1, 1, 1, 1)
Photo B receives two third place votes (3, 3)
Photo B wins, 6 to 5, even though only two people found it cool enough to give any votes at all, and those were third place. Two third place votes trump five first place votes.
This isn’t adding up for me, but since it’s already been established I’m a simple peddler, I’m hoping you can provide additional clarity.
