Does any one know how to legally use music in a video.
If you never sell it does it matter.
If you do do you need the artists permission?
How do you get that?

Use your time machine to publish the sheet music before they released the album. Then sue them for copyright.

well, im no expert, but i believe they have these things called, like, “large audience broadcast rules” or something like that. that is, if you buy yourself a cd, you can play it for yourself, and for some friends, but if say, you wanted to play that same cd for a football game with 100,000 people listening, you need some kind of artist permission or something.
so i guess you can play whatever music in your vid you want, as it is an indeterminate audience, like the radio…

there is no debate. it’s illegal to use other people’s music in your video, whatever the purpose of the video, without consent.
ok, but then why is it legal to let others listen to CDs that you payed for?
Technically you can’t use their music in a video period, ever, at all, without getting the artist’s permission.
But no one really cares about the law.

plus, im sayin, what if your buddy borrows your CD and listens to it?
he paid no royalty to the music company, therefore he is listening to the music for free. thats illegal when the music is in file form, isnt it? (ie, limewire).
For some reason I thought you could use ten seconds of a song legally, but burning mixes is legal as long as only you listen to them, I think. For videos, everyone pretty much just uses whatever song they want reguardless of wether it’s legal or not. I don’t think you will get arrested for using a song in an online video.
