Video Game Martyr is a Real Life Hero!

Jake Roberts is a saint!

Parents need to realize that video games are way cooler than real life, and that depriving one of the sentient right of playing the newest and best console available is a crime. Life wouldn’t be worth living without video-games, I know it, and Jake Roberts knew it. Sadly, his parents won this one. Although the people involved try to cover it up, Jake knew he was just doing what he had to do, to prevent his own suffering and more importantly, the suffering of future console gamers around the world.

Jake Wiill always be remembered by myself and by fellow gamers as the one who went straight to World 9 by using two flutes: the Wiimote and the Nunchuk. Xenu(or whatever mythological beast Cathoholics worship) bless him!!!

How does one play a computer game on a Wii?

You stick your mouse into the nunchuk port and put the game in your DVD drive! DUH!

Stupid questions get stupid answers.

I know it sounded like a stupid question, but the stupidity stems from the fact that every single article about video games calls them computer games, even if it’s talking about a console game.

That’s dumb…

There are plenty of reason’s for killing yourself. Video game’s are not one of them.

Though, I remember when I was in second grade, my mom threatened to take away my gameboy as some kind of punishment for something and i was thinking that I would kill myself if I did.

But yeah, All school year (well, since October) I was not aloud to play any Xbox 360. Now that summer is back, I can finally play it again. I survived just fine and well, rarely missing it.

Hahahaha…

Suicide is pointless, It never makes anything better, so why do it? That is slightly pathetic.

The article is written in a way to imply suicide, but read carefully and it says it was most likely an accidental occurrence during a temper tantrum. Not a suicide.

So he accidentally tied the tie around his bed and neck, and accidentally fell

No, there is a whole world of difference between suicide attempt, and actual suicide. Many people do the first with actually no intention of going through with the second. In some tragic cases, the first goes wrong and the second happens by accident.

Each one is pointless though.

why do you say suicide is pointless? It fixes all problems. At the same time, it takes away all joy. If there is no possible joy left, and only problems, suicide would fix everything for the individual. It may make it worse for those who cared for him/her, but it is a way to escape literally anything.

Unless hell exists, which I find doubtful.

Yep, pretty much it. I’m not sure it fixes the problems, it just blatantly ends them for you. Committing suicide over wii is kind of like chopping your leg off since you have a hang nail.

Slightly? Then again you have to think what other problems this kid had to make him get so upset over simple things. I’m guessing he had more than a few issues to make him think of suicide because of this argument.

I just thought, maybe he was playing that choking game thing. My teacher’s friend’s kid died that way. Maybe since he didn’t have his game he went to play something else.

Oh yeah, that is a game where you choke yourself to pass out. You get a slight high since there is a lack of oxygen to the brain. I’ve heard of kids using belts and killing themselves, also using ties much like in the story. The kid I personally heard of tried using the string to a blind within his room.

Haha, fixing problems I would say is ending them.

Though we seem to be on the same page.

Id like to hear the kids gaming background.

My friend, hes an addict when it comes to WoW. He seriously plays 18-20hrs a day. Sets his alarm clock at 5am, wakes up, gets on the comp, ill head over around 8pm, and he is still on, me and his other brother go and hang out, buy some food, walk around and all, come back around 10pm, hes still on, it gets close to 2am, and then hes finally forced off the comp, hell sit around for a while, but cause he cant get on WoW, he just goes to bed, and repeats the next day.

I somewhat blame the parents. The whole house revolves around the computers and games, which sparks many arguments that to me, are just dumb and childish. But I also feel its the parents who allowed this to happen, and are not trying to ween them from the computers, and do something with friends and be outside.

I remember it getting really bad a while back. I used to have to grab a pillow, block a knife or a bat, and either wait until he calmed down or his mom came home to deal with it, which sucked, cause most times I never did or said anything.

So im wondering if this kid was the same, cause then it would make sense. Sad pointless sense.

when it says that it could have been accidental death, he could have had his tie caught onto something while jumping on his bed, and he could have fallen. it does say he goes to a school where ties are worn. Its funny how the father comments his death as “I honestly don’t think he meant to hang himself. I think he was mad about the computer game and just did something stupid”… Is this how a father is suppose to react about his child’s death no matter the circumstances?

I think we are. I like this page, you? Fixing problems is different than just stopping them imo. There is a huge gray area though, but I think suicide doesn’t really fix them. Fixing, to me, implies you did something to help the problem, not something that makes it so you don’t have to deal with that problem anymore. For example, killing himself had the affect of making it so he could no longer play the game, but was not focused on the problem itself which was that he couldn’t play it. Well, did he fix it? To me no, but does he have to deal with it anymore? Nope. I would see fixing the problem as making a compromise with his other sibling or parents so that he could enjoy his new game system. In

Some kid in China committed suicide when his parents confiscated his modem (he played WoW). I did a project on addiction to MMORPG’s last year :P. Other people died from exhaustion after playing for days without sleeping and one guy committed suicide because he was betrayed by a friend on everquest.

I lol’ed at the last one. Internet addictions are crazy.
