Video editing programs for mac

I was just wondering what video editing programs you mac users use. I have been using iMovie 4 and it works good, but I would like to get a bit more advanced.

What is a good program that is a more advanced then iMovie and doesn’t have huge system requirements? (my comp is a few years old) I have no problem downloading it so price isn’t really a factor for me.

Final Cut Pro. Doesnt get much better, IMO.

^^^that is pretty much awesome^^^
i dont have mac, but i want to get a mac solely for the purpose of Final Cut Studio. i think that has final cut pro in it as well as audio editors and stuff.

I agree. However, I have not seen anything in a unicycling video that could’nt have been done in iMovie HD yet.

I am still using iMovie 4 because my comp is a few years old and I haven’t upgraded it. I don’t have a good enough processor to run iMovie HD even if I upgraded my operating system.

I think I will wait till the end of the summer and get a new computer, then I can get a nice program, or just stick with iMovie HD.

I downloaded Adobe Premiere 6.5. It can do more then iMovie 4 but its pretty old and I don’t like it.

If you watch my videos, you will see subtle differences. To the untrainted eye you may not see much, but the clues are there. With Final Cut Studio, you get Motion, which is a fantastic program for titles and slidshows. You get soundtrack Pro, wich Helps give your project that top notch feel. The way FCP works seamlessly with both of those progrmas is amazing; also it does the same with compressor, which allows for much better compression than i movie. FCP also has better film speed minipulation. Plus a masive list of other cool features that blows imovie away. The only thing I think imovie really has goin for it, is its easy and quick. It is however a great program for editing. It can make some nice videos for sure, but it is nowhere up to par with FCP.

The new Adobe Production Suite looks awesome.

Yea, I figured you’d have something to say about that. Your videos are among the most complex uni videos I’ve seen. But even so, they are subtle differences. If you really know what you’re doing, you can get the professional feel out of iMovie. There a lot of free plugins for iMovie (that are a pain in the @$$ to install) that give it some new effects and such…but I still agree, FCP is better.

Just to throw it out there, the video in my sig was edited in iMovie.

I like how easy and simple it is to capture video off of my camera with it. It also has a lot of compression settings which are nice.

What are the specs on you guy’s computers?

Whats your system specs matt?

'cause I run iMovie HD on 900mhz 640 mb ram ibook, which is fairly old.

iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster).

I might update my OS soon, but I still can’t use it because I have a eMac G4

The system requirements you listed are for iMovie '08. Apparently this newer version is much simpler to use, but drops many of the more advanced features found in the previous version ('06). You might want to look for a cheap copy of iLife '06 (which works with a G4) to see what differences that version of iMovie has. Sounds like you want a little more power, but not so much that you have to learn a complex interface.

Ya that is exactly what I want.

I have been looking at it and I don’t like how the new version doesn’t use a timeline to edit or arrange clips. It seems like its more of just a way to store you videos, which I really don’t care about.

Oh wow, thanks a lot John, that looks like exactly what I need. It can even edit in widescreen, which is one of the things I don’t like about iMovie 4.

And my computer easily meets the requirements!
