Video camera? Editting programs?

I am looking for info on what everyone uses to create their videos. I am sure many using their cell phones but what else. I have a Nikon CoolPix camera that I use for videos but I am looking for editting software.

The camera takes AVI videos only. What is the best software for PC to edit an AVI file. Not only do I want to cut but maybe also lighten or darken the videos.

Since my computer can’t seem to handle Adobe Premiere CS4 (which is what I would like to use), I currently have been filming and editing my progress all on my iPhone 4S and iMovie. Such a great program actually considering the platform it’s on.

Otherwise, I do have a Canon T2i and Premiere CS4 that I would like to use but I’m going to need to get a new computer with a multi-core processor, a 64-bit OS and more memory. My single core processor and 3.5gb of RAM just doesn’t cut it these days.

Oh, and ^: Premiere loves AVI files. If you can afford Premiere, you’re in good shape. You can also manually lighten the video or do an auto levels to it to even things out. It won’t work miracles but it will help.

Or you can check out Premiere Elements…it’s a lite version of the mentioned Premiere software but it’s actually pretty decent considering it’s a consumer software and not technically professional.

I love my GoPro camera, and I also love my Sony Vegas editing software. You can download a free 30 day trial version of it from Sony’s website.

I have a kodak zi6 hd flip style camera and have been using imovie for editing. The camera does an ok job, but eats batteries and my memory card is only 4gigs, so I’m always either running out of power or memory. I’m about to get a new camera, thinking about something like the Panasonic HDC-SD80K.

I’m pretty happy with imovie, but I don’t do much in the way of big projects.
