I’ve been using a memory card to record all my videos, but it only allows me to record 10 second videos. So now I’m trying to see if I can transfer a mini dv file onto my computer so I can edit it. Does anyone know how to do this? I have a dv cable, but whenever I plug it in the computer says usb device unknown. Do I need some kind of software?
You transfer Mini DV through a Firewire cable.
If you dont have a firewire port on your comp, but have some extra PCI slots, jsut run down to a comp store and you can get a basic firewire card with the firewire cable for around $20.
Then from there you just use whatever program you have to edit with and capture the film with that.
Well firstly, I would reccomend not using the memory card function to record your video, and instead record directly onto your mini dv.\
Once you have recorded moving image onto the mini dv, you must ‘capture’ the video through editing software, or alternately, through the software that came with your camera. If you are using windows, you probably will have to install this either way.
