Normally, I go straight to JC, because it usually has pretty interesting stuff and happenings from around the globe. But lately I mostly see posts and threads made for the sake of postcount and boredom. Shouldn’t threads with no actual content beyond “I r dumb.”, “haha”, or something of the sort be sent to the spam bin? I hate having to click through pages of crap to get to something I would like to read, and all of the “LAME” posts are really building up. I mean, games and stuff are fun and all, but people should really consider how much of peoples time their wasting by making themselves looks so stupid. Go out and ride if you’re so bored, and make a video or post accounting your ride if you’re so post hungry. It’s like having to wade through a mile of neck deep fecal matter to buy the daily paper in here.
I agree. I realize this is Just Conversation, but we really should maintain some form of validity to it’s content.
Yeah, and blocking user’s does no good, because everyone posts something valid every once and a while. Down with useless posts, up with animated avatars and sig images.

Just a few months ago, I would go to the forums here, and read through every thread made because they were different and good and had a lot of different cool stuff to read though.
Now, when I come to look at JC, Ill look at maybe 4 good threads and the other ones dont even seem worth it anymore. At least MR will always be there.
making good use of the ignore list will really improve your forum browsing experience. i’m sure everyone makes a valid point once in a while, but it’s rarely worth sifting through the mountain of useless crap they create. if for some strange reason they actually make a useful comment, other people will often quote them and you’ll see it then.
Nooo! Sig images are horrible! Having a bloody great picture between every post makes forums much harder to read, even more when they’re animated.
I agree with you about the useless posts though, RSU has had quite a lot of those recently too.
yea theres a lot of useless stuff. i just chalk it up a a bunch of random garbagethat i dotn want to read, so i dont. and i will never read about someone’s ‘‘epic rides’’…except maybe munimanpete. lol yea i hear where youre coming from though man.

I find JC fluctuates widely. Sometimes there is nothing that I am interested in at all, sometimes it is really good.

What I would like to implement sometime is a way for users to flag/rate posts. Then those posts that are rated low are not shown, but instead an expand button is shown to let the viewer see the post when clicked. If most of the posts by a certain user have a low rating, then the default is not to show their posts unless that particular post is rated higher.
However, at this time I do not have the time to code this as I’m working on another project. It’s not an original idea, so a hack might be available, if anyone can find it at http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/

I remember you, Catboy, starting some similar “dumb” threads before too, though.
Your ideas there seem to be aimed at individual posts, and individual’s posts. Now it seems to me that this would involve a lot more work on both the coder’s part and the reader’s part, than just to attack it a a thread level. We certainly have a lot of very trivial threads, especially the last couple of weeks, and it is at that level that I would prefer to see some action. The ideal action would be that people no longer post threads that are just polling to see if I prefer white or brown bread, or claiming to be the most boring thread, or whatever. A second best would be that these are in some way flagged as trivial. Perhaps a trivial offshoot forum of JC might work. Or having a number of assigned people who can move such, at their discretion into the trivial forum. Something need to be done as I suspect I am far from being alone in considering whether it is still worth reading. There have been spells with some excellent stuff, none unicycle related, but excellent because of the content people have written. Whereas most replies has surely established a record, and should now be ditched. At many thousands of replies, no one is going to read it to see if any of it is worth the time. A few others need to be permanently archived as well.
To consign one or more people’s posts to a lower level may not be viewed as fair, he might be struggling to explain and express himself well, yet have an excellent point to make. We probably need to discuss exactly what we want as a group.

…as a counter-example, I’ve noticed iridemymuni and tomtrevor have been ganging up to stupify a good number of threads in RSU and JC…
not to pick on these two, although they’re practically begging for it, there are a number of other users who bring similarly profound posts to the fora… posting random exclamations, hearsay and opinions as factual information.
as far as I’m concerned, JC can be the dumping ground of the Internet, but RSU shouldn’t be left to fill with junk posts. the unicyclist community doesn’t have many other options for sharing news and information… if we only have one pool to swim in, we shouldn’t be letting the kids pee in it!
