i shot some video of a racing circuit and need to edit it. By this i mean cut the length down, and reduce the quality. Nothign fancy. This seems to be beyond the ability of any software I own currently. I need to get the size down below 1Gb so that i can take it in to work, as that’s the size of my biggest memorey stick, and I can’t take it in on the camera.
If youre on windows you will already have windows movie maker installed on your comp. If youre on a mac then you should have iMovie.
If you want something different then go to google and lookup Free video editors. There a few of them out there.
For compression, zip,7z,rar, uharc and others are good, but to actually compress the video file, go and download SUPER, set it up
to use a good codec, like h264 or Divx, then set it at a low bitrate and then hit enter. The lower the bitrate, the lower the file will be and
the lower the quality. A higher bitrate leaves you with a bigger file size but higher quality video, and with a good codec and settings, you
can have a low file size and high quality video.
Also, invest in a bigger memory stick. 4gig usb drives are only about $10-$20.
EDIT: Windows movie maker is completely free for download. Just go to download.com and look it up, or google it and youll find it easily. its a small and quick download too.
Getting the file below 1gig will be easy. SUPER is completely free, their site is a little weird. There isnt a direct download link until you go through
two or three pages of their sites links, then at the bottom of the page youll be able to download it. Completely worth the min of scrolling their
site though.
Let us, or me, know when you have it, cause to some its hard to figure out, but we can walk you through it.
If he works in a place like Intel, where they’re concerned about information going out, and bad information getting onto computers, I can understand this.
But is this a work project in the first place?
Apparently not. Jerrick said you can download Windows Movie Maker for free. :o
I work in the automotive industry, information is tightly controlled. I’d take the film in on the camera but walking around the site with a random unregistered camera is probably enough to get me fired, as we have future model prototypes all over the place.
It’s a side project to my main work that I’m having to do mostly in my own time.
No. I read somewhere on the Youtube site it says to allow 3-5 minutes per 1Mb to upload if you have highspeed. It shouldn’t take more than a few hours. Then, once you got the message that it was uploaded OK, it still could take a day or 2, to become available.
Nope. My last video was about 800megs, it took a bit to be uploaded, but only about 30mins after that it was processed and ready for people to watch it.
It will probably be quicker to delete, and reupload the file.
Cool! I love those old race cars. 3.5 million? I’d be afraid to drive it, let alone at possible-decapitation speeds. Maybe when I’m 80 I’ll have less to lose…
