Velocity 24" rims

For nic and anyone else trying to track down a decent 24" rim:

Velocity does a 24" double wall rim for about $35 (USD). They are Australian
made and quite narrow. The one I have has a V profile (rather than the more
traditional U profile) and is a nice shiny red. I’ve put a small dent in it but
it is still true which is more than I can say for any of the other 24" rims
I’ve owned.

At the moment I’ve got a 1.95" tyre on it and I don’t think I’d want to go any
bigger than that. Its not a perfect rim for Muni but it sure looks nice and
definately beats having to get wheels rebuilt.

Re: Velocity 24" rims

New product from THE, manufacturer of mtb fenders/accessories, is a downhill rim
called THE Eliminator, retail $99 USD, 26 or 24", extra-wide for dh use, with a
special raised crecent between the “braking” surfaces. This is toppped with a
plastic insert to further pad it. The idea is to eliminate pinch flats, allowing
lower air pressure and harder hits. Pre production tests (aluminum tube welded
into a rim) were positive- huge dents in the tube showed it had taken BIG hits,
but no pinch flats (they claimed 20+ mph at a curb, 15 psi on cheap tubes and
tires). Look for them around X-mas time this year, if everything’s on schedule.
(Ah, the joys of working in a bike shop…

Re: Velocity 24" rims

Velocity has just released a new rim that is very wide. At the moment I think
that they are just doing a 20". Larger sizes will follow. I forget the width
but it is bigger than the 28mm wide rim that I have just had built into a 26"
muni wheel.

The velocity rims come powder coated or anodised (which is the coolest).

Wayne.
