Input the approximate fuel data for your existing car, truck or suv, and see how much you are spending per year. Then it will calculate what you would be spending for gas if you owned a hybrid:
“(let’s be honest most gasoline engine commuter cars get around 12 - 15, SUV’s 9 - 14)”
That seems pretty low. My '97 Pontiac Grand Prix currently gets about 22mpg city and 28mpg highway. I use the trip meter and reset it at each fill-up, and write down all the numbers. Been doing this for a few months. And my car isn’t even designed to get awesome fuel efficiency. This calculator thingy maybe seems biased a bit, to make the difference between hybrid ownership and normal guzzlers look bigger.
My parents’ Buick, which drives like a boat, even gets about 19mpg city.
12-15mpg for commutercars? come on. maybe sports cars…
I think the best thing here is to ride a unicycle or bicycle to work/errands! I’ve been doing that so far this summer for anything 5 miles or closer. It’s saved me a lot of gas!
Wow. A Prius is an AWFUL deal compared to my present commuter. I would LOSE 24 dollars a month in fuel alone buying a Prius. And that’s AFTER I payed the ridiculous sticker price for one of those foul, polluting, environmental disasters. I’ll stick with my Coker, thank you very much.
You’re foul and polluting too, but we like you anyways.
LOL,
This analysis fails to include many other factors in the cost of a vehicle switch.
There’s the amount of money you lose by selling your current vehicle, and the amount you’ll lose by buying a new vehicle, as well as the potential change in insurance rates, maintenance, etc.
By the time your fuel savings add up to match your losses, your hybrid may be well overdue for a major overhaul.
Sure, it’s nice to imagine that you’d be richer had you made a different decision at some point, but the reality of said decision might have cost you more than you realize.
hahaha… That thing sucked ass… Seriously, the prius sucks. Period. Even by their meter thingy, my brother 1982 vw blue smoke spewing un earth friendly rabbit got better gas mileage, and saved money compared to the prius.
I even had to use diff things since his vw is diesel, and the prius is gas.
My brothers car money per month - $85
Prius money per month ----------- $93
not much of a difference, but it gets the point across. The prius sucks. Its really un envirenmentally friendly. The area that makes batteries for the prius, has a 10mile dead zone around them. NASA uses the dead zone for moon lander testing.
vs
Are you kidding me? The Prius is green!!
That means that every mile you drive actually removes emmissions from the air and converts it into oil which is put back into the ground. All those battery packs cause trees to grow during manufacture.
You’re totally right. There was an article somewhere saying that the Hummer is more environmentally friendly than the Prius, therefore it must be true. Heck, it was on teh internets
your joking right?
I can’t believe a car in the US can cost that much and only be available in one color. You must be mistaken.
No, only my left is joking. My right is completely serious.
No, he’s clearly Ms Calisi. I think we can all agree that Ms Taken isn’t here.
If Taken was taken, wouldn’t she be Mrs Taken?
I love my moped- $8 about every two weeks, so maybe $200 a year.
Y’all are silly!
