In order to make my unicycles more space efficient and reduce the sticker shock of building new unicycles, I’m debating using a pair of KH36 frames for all my large unis. 1 frame for external disc and the other for internal.
I’m a firm believer of using KH36 frames for 32” wheels but wanted to gauge opinion on whether there is such a thing as a wheel too small to fit in a 36” frame and what size that would be?
Only if you mount another 12” in the frame above it!
More telling that the SPDs are still on there - haven’t ridden the 700c for about 8 years. I’m about 20kg too heavy to even consider it at the moment.
I stopped riding for several years (2019?) restarting last August. At the moment my focus is on building fitness and endurance while pushing my weight down. I have more SPDs in my spares box and will probably move back over to them later this year if i don’t have any setbacks.
It might look a little funny with a small wheel in a large frame, but being you’re on a unicycle anyways it probably doesn’t matter for the average person
The 19“ reminds me of some one wheeled robots in comics. But that could be due to the missing cranks and pedals.
In the end it‘s a matter of your personal taste. I find the narrow 700er tyre about as disproportional as the small 19“.
I don’t know - the 700c kinda looks too little in any frame just because of how narrow it is… I actually quite like it in the 36er… Really it works best as a stand in for a 26 or fat 24.
I get the robot comment about the 19, it might look better if it didn’t have the entire saddle/handlebar setup on top
For me 32” works in a 36” frame as they’re pretty similar unicycles.
Once you get to smaller wheels I think you’re getting to a different style of unicycle which might want a different saddle or different handle/brake setup.
I’ve certainly seen someone ride a 20” wheel in a 36” frame, but they only really changed it for speed differences.
If the frame is very narrow too, a narrow 700 tyre will look ok.
Same with my 27.5x3.0 wheel - it looks much better in the frame that takes up to 4“ wide tyres than in the frame that takes up to 5“ wide tyres, in my opinion.
The 19“ could take a second bottle, just above the wheel
I thought about just having a couple of different bar setups, it’s pretty easy to change a T bar over, even with a brake. Saddle wise, i tend to stay with the same saddle….
Don’t think there’s anything available, short of lengthening an E-Sport or Black Witch frame, that would have to be custom.
Maybe this is the ultimate touring setup, a G19 with all that lovely frame space for stuff
That reminds me I have a G20 in the works that I should finish… As far as narrow frames, there are vintage frames that qualify, such as my Imholz (ok, that‘s a 650B but they also did 700C) …yet another uni in the works . The new tube and tyre should be delivered any day
