URGENT: One of our friends is missing in Cambodia

Dear Friends,
Rachel Kalmar, who is special to me beyond words, is missing in PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA. Rachel is a unicyclist, competed in Ride the Lobster, and has a unicycle with her in Cambodia.

Approximately 18 hours ago there was a stampede at a
water festival in Phnom Penh. http://goo.gl/Z3woS

It left some 350 people dead. Rachel’s parents have not heard any word from her, and have called the U.S. Embassy.

I am looking for any connection to someone currently living in Phnon
Penh. I know this is a longshot, but if you can offer any direct
connection, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have done some of the other obvious things: posted on Rachel’s
Facebook wall, Tweeted, etc.

Thank you, Jim Sowers

I heard about this disaster on the radio, sad news. Unfortunately I can only wish you(her) the best and give you support, for what it’s worth.
Please keep us updated, hoping she’s OK.

Says on that link that there were no foreigners in the deceased. Unless your friend is cambodian, this may be good news.

You should be getting an email from a missionary that I know there. He is currently in the US for a few more weeks, but has some contacts there.

Bill

Yes, I heard from the missionary. Thank you! Rachel has turned up. I have been trying to figure out how to update this forum, since I never use it! Rachel was at the festival but left before the stampede. Because the news was not in English she was not aware of the magnitude of the tragedy and that it would be international news causing her friends and family great concern.

Rachel is alive and well! Thanks to all of you for your support.

Rachel was at the water festival but left before the stampede. Because the news was not in English she was not aware of the magnitude of the tragedy and that it would be international news causing her friends and family great concern. After our flood of tweets and Facebook posts and Unicycle forums, that we were looking for her soon came to her attention and she checked in.

I have to say that the unicyclists were some of the most responsive and helpful with direct useful contacts. I’m proud to be connected to a group of folks so tightly connected with nothing more in common than the ability to navigate on a single wheel!

Thanks again.
