University of British Columbia

I originally wrote this as a PM to danger_uni (a.k.a Kris Holm) but I got a message basically saying he is to amazing to receive PMs so I’ll post it to the masses in the hope that someone on this board attends or did attend UBC.

Hey Kris, I have a quick question for you about UBC. I’m a senior right now in high school and I’m seriously considering going to UBC. I visited there this summer and I absolutely loved it. I saw on Ripley’s that you are (were?) attending UBC as a grad student and I figured that if anyone could, you could tell me about UBC.

Alright, here are my questions.

  1. What do you think of the university?

  2. How is unicycling there in general?

  3. Are there are couple of people who unicycle there to ride with?

  4. I do a lot of street, trials and Muni. Is it impossible to get to good trails without a car?

  5. Will they care if I ride street on campus if I don’t do anything destructive (like crank stalls on wood or grinds), or get in people’s way?

  6. Anything else of interest that you think I should know.

Thanks in Advance

All I know is if a blond guy with a semi-british accent sees you riding and says he wants to see blood, tell him I said hi!

A semi-British accent in B.C. Canada is going to narrow things down considerably.
Lots of people in B.C. Canada sound like they have a semi-British accent.

  1. It depends on what faculty you’re going into. The campus is super nice and it’s definitely a great school.

  2. You mean the riders or the terrain? The terrain is some of the best in the world and obviously with Kris here one of the riders is too =)

  3. There’s a group of us that arrange rides roughly every weekend. I think there’s a link to our yahoo group on the www.vanuni.com website.

  4. Most of the north shore trails are accessible by bus.

  5. Not sure about this, probably depends on who sees you etc.

  6. Ahh nothing much I can think of… The ice rinks are getting torn down next year and replaced with new ones for the Olympics.

Wow, I’m Intrigued. Who is that?

Sweet, thanks for the info. I would hopefully be going into the engineering department. I really loved the campus when I went to visit.

How many of you from the vanuni site are attending UBC? Looks like a fun group. I’ll be sure to post back if I get accepted, I have to wait for my second quarter grades (crazy Canadian schools making me try hard senior year, haha). Thanks Again.

Blond guy is a Bishop’s Alum from Sweden… Hence the non-North American Accent  He was always saying he wanted to see me bleed when I went riding

Haha, great…
