UniSpins

I just CAN NOT do unispins at all. This is a little vague, but does anybody have any advice on how to do them???

or what kind of Uni i should be using?
(I’m using a 24" MUni, because thats all I have!)

Thanks
~Joe~

I started out just doing a uni spin mount. That is standing on the ground, jumping up, spinning the uni 180 degrees and landing on the pedals (sometimes).

That is the easiest type to do. I found pulling the seat around with my strong hand/arm was the most efficient. Since this is my right hand, I spun the uni around clockwise.

You probably should be able to jump mount and jump mount to seat out front.

For uni spin 180, it looks like you need to be pretty good at hopping seat out front, maybe with the ability to do stillstands briefly. But I can’t do them, so I can’t really say much.

I was trying them yesterday.

I found it realy hard just to get the courage to do one. I found it easier though, when I was wearing my 661s.

I was practicing for ages, and could do it once or twice.
This was on a Nimbus (YUni) but i dont know have much different it will be on a trials uni. Mine is away at the moment. I should have it back son though.

Ill have another bash at it later…

Cheers,

Joe.

unispins are hard, keep practicing.

the hand placement is one of the things that i found to be verry important.

the other thing is that you need to make sure your legs dont get hit by the wheel, jump fairly high and do a sort of star jump thing with your legs.

theres a video in my gallery go to my homepage and follow the link
you can see how i hold the seat.

I also found an important factor: you have to (pretend to) be fearless. I
tried this for a long time and was about to give up until I decided that
I’d have to hurt myself. Then I was able to do it – and I didn’t even
hurt myself

Unispin 540 degrees - Christian Hoverath (Germany): VIDEO
For me it is difficult to land the 180 unispin all the time…

Looking at the video frame by frame is interesting. He lands this with the wheel of the uni tilted about 30 degrees from vertical, then hops sideways out of it.

At full speed, I can’t tell how far he spins the thing around.

THanks for the help, especially “Iunicyle”…

those unispin mounts really helped!!!

Great! I remember wondering when I would ever try this, and then one night around 10pm I just was able to get the courage. I new I could do it. So I went out to the side of my house, to my “I know I can’t get hurt” area and started trying it out.

I noticed on evilewan’s video that he lands on the cranks. I’ve heard this is a good target instead of worrying about the pedals. I don’t do a lot of hopping, so I haven’t practiced that too much.

or, for a video example, I have a couple of them here: http://gallery.unicyclist.com/albuo09

Re: UniSpins

I find them easier on a 20 inch because my feet have less chance of hitting the wheel.

thats the one thing i forgot to mention, jump from the pedals and land on the cranks

hopping isn’t realy that hard, and their are many tricks that become much easier if you can hop realy well, like toe jamming and foot loops (foot around seat)

hopping on the cranks takes next to no practice to learn.

its more of a hop, stilstand, hop, stilstand thing. than a pogo pogo pogo thing.

that video was when i just learned to do unispins i’m much better now!
