Unicyclists in Nome, Alaska

I’m applying for a job there… is anyone riding up there? In Alaska anywhere?

That will make it rather unlikely you and Bear will be able to make next years’ LBI Unithon. :frowning:

George Peck, who is about 65 now, is Alaska’s most famous unicyclist. He was in Seward. Rough Terrain Unicyclilng is an article about him that was published in the Atlantic Monthly in 1997.

There are other unicyclists in Alaska.

Its a fixed term appointment, 9 months…might just be back in time for unithon! I might have to ask if they will hold my job in PA for me while I am gone.

Sounds cool. Good luck and tell Bear hi from me, please.

Sounds like you will need chains for your uni tire.

I looked up the weather and they really don’t get that much precip there. The Keweenaw Penninsula of Michigan, where I used to live, gets much much more snow. So does Marquette, where Musketman and uni-steve511 live.

Chains or at least studs might be a good idea for the ice, though some say riding a uni on ice is easy!

There are a lot of things that have to fall into place between now and me taking that job, so I don’t know if it will happen, but we’ll see!

So are you going to study his poop.

or…you could get these link

Nice tires!! Maybe! Depends on if I get it and what the job pays.

And Bugman, you are insightful!
Indeed, I already have plans in store for looking at mammoth turds, AK or not! I actually have connections with mammoth-impacted soils in Eastern WA. I think in AK I will be looking at muck ox and reindeer turds.

Blake,

Last I heard there were no unicyclists or job openings in Alaska.

Kevin, if I leave for several months, i will need someone to watch over the unicycles.

Why do mammoths get all the press and attention? Mastodont turds need to be studied too. How do you tell the difference?

When you’re doing your digging just click your heels and say, "There’s hoe place like Nome, there’s hoe place like Nome, there’s hoe place like Nome…

Is that what gangsta rappers are chanting up north?

You should test that spit-freezing-before-it-hits-the-ground thing…

Lol.

Mammoth versus mastodon? Looksee

Hey I just found my mission. Has anyone unicycled across the Sea Ice from Russia to AK?

Unicycle Route.jpg

Just browsing my copy of One Wheel Many Spokes, looks like Lars Clausen has lived and ridden around Nome. There’s a picture of him riding on the sea ice, even!

You would be in unicycle lore for enternity.

Podzol, if you get serious about this you may want to talk to my wife. She did a travle nurse contract at the hosp. at Nome from Oct. of 05 to Jan. of 06. She says tha cold and darkness are bad enough; then, you get darn tired of white. Other than that though she had a good time. 'Said the people were nice. If you want to talk to someone who has been there recently PM to Jennifer through my contact info.

They may be nice, but they kind of freak me out.
