how long until im mentioned
u got mad at me for doing that
yeah teh try to contribute rule is a very good one.
I like the way there are very little rules here. Basically just be nice, dont be an ass and everything will be allright.
I still wish the edit button didnt go after 10 minutes. Why is this gilby? I’m sorry i’m sure someone has asked but i cant find it in search…
Because RSU is mirrored to the newsgroup and an email list. Those mediums can’t be edited once it’s sent to them.
ah thats fair enough. Thanks alot. I guess i’ll learn to be more carefull about what i post… or just double post more…
IDEUBCIX.
I totaly argree with you Amanda
True, but does a couple spelling mistakes or a typo really bother anyone at all? *
The only thing that gets annoying is when people try to say everything using as little letters as they can, I hate that too…
*(except someone like Miss Averly, maybe…)
exactly. thats wots annoying anything else is fine a few spelling mistakes is just fine.
but honestly are there that many really bad threads here?
Ha, that is funny.
Your new so it’s okay though.
I have made a couple bad ones.
Owen made some really bad ones, his username is murdemental, search it.
But yeah, there were others that have contributed, but there were some bad threads.
I remember once when the first 5 or 6 spots in JC were taken up by Most Replys and it’s copycat threads.
Der Kommissar
The basis for an expanding record of accomplishments.
The above thread is available to sort these issues, but as you can see, there’s a libidinous, verbal gratification that occurs here as well…
I agree that some form of guide line is need. As to whether it would be enforced or not I think it’s a good idea because it’s nice being able to read a post with out looking back and forth to try to figure out what the person is saying. By having a set of rules doesn’t mean that every sentence should be perfectly correct it’s just the overall idea of making it easier on everyone to read posts.
(actually any more than 3 posts in a row is shunned upon unless it’s GILD responding to previous posts)
Sugar, you are my hero.
I almost completely agree with this. There are some people on here who consistently type out their posts by tossing rocks at the keyboard from across the room (that’s at least what it looks like).
However, bad spelling and grammar can be tolerated, simply because this is not a forum only for native, fluent, English speakers. It wouldn’t kill most of you to try harder, though. There’s a difference between bad spelling/grammar because you’re learning the language, and bad spelling/grammar because you’re too lazy to do it right.
I propose some kind of filter that would immediately IP ban you if you post anything resembling this:
That’s just blatant stupidity in any language.
What’s the big deal with writing differently? I think it’s kinda kewl. Anyway, everyone knows what everyone else says.
That’s where you’re not correct. If I knew what everyone meant, there would have been no reason for this thread. The occasional grammatical or spelling error is tolerable, but please preview your post! I don’t know what a quarter of the posts in some of the recent threads even say. There are no sentences; there is no punctuation. I really do want to read what different people have to say on the topic, just make it more friendly to read.
I doubt there will ever be rules on this forum for posts, but perhaps something as simple as this…
When you post a new thread, ask yourself these simple questions:
1) Has this thread been created before? In the past month (don’t post it)?
2) Have I previewed what you wrote? (does it make sense?)
3) Does the thread have a purpose?
4) Have I searched for other threads on the same topic?
For a reply, ask yourself these:
1) Do I sound coherent?
2) Is there any punctuation in my reply? (at least a period or a question mark)
3) Did I preview my post?
4) Does my post have a purpose? (have something meaningful to say)
Just suggestions… please add to them.
There’s no problem with a couple of spelling mistakes; the problem is the blatant ones mistakes that make it difficult to understand the point you are trying to articulate. It would be ridiculous to say that everyone needs to make their posts read like an english paper. The idea is to make yourself not sound like an idiot (beneficial for all parties involved) and to not say that you’re too lazy to check your post when you are the one making the effort to post in the first place. I agree that the biggest problem is the people who cannot seem to write a single word correctly and post something that looks like a text message.
Can you post from your phone? If so, I’ll take back what I said.
I am a spelling, grammar, punctuation freak who is watching the English language deteriorate into an assembly of “pop” dialects. It will happen, nothing will stop it. There will eventually be English speaking groups who can no longer communicate with one another. What has been said by many forum members is true; that poorly written posts often are indecipherable or contain no information. That annoys me. That’s my tough luck. I can chastise, parody, mock, or make fun of these people as my mood suits me. But the bottom line is that it is Gilby’s website and he should do with it as he pleases. Anarchy at least thinks it rules.
I’m with you on the new thread thing buuuuuut…
u can understand ths cant u?
I try to have as good punctuation and all the other stuff as possible but having rules that discriminate against people who break the norm is (to be blunt) just plain stupid. Please take no offence. I mean none. but having rules that prohibit ppl to spell how they choose is real dum. wat harm duz it doo if sumone spells like this or dusn’t capitalize sentences?? what’s the big deal?? It’s kind of like having a rule prohibiting the use of the word “gib”. Gib has no use, other then a bit of comedic value, but it dosn’t do any harm.
Ok, I saw some other posts that were typed in while i was typing.
Nobody is going to die of mispelled words!!
^^^(I’m gettn’ emotional)
Do you all get annoyed at James Joyce? He intentionaly spelled words wrong and he put these words together (with sum he thot Up) and made gibbing fantasik works of ART!!!
