I had to laugh at this- they used a photo of me to advertise NZO shorts in the latest issue of ‘Spoke’ magazine.
I wear these shorts everywhere I ride (because they’re great- I’m not sponsored by NZO). The NZO guys came up to me at last years 24hr Moonride mountainbike race and offered me some free Dobies. Now I’ve got more pairs than I know what I do with.
Sorry if the picture is blurry, my scanner is not working so it’s a digital photo.
I think it’s an awesome ad for bike shorts! They’re not only taking you seriously, they chose you over some guy on the traditional vehicle to show how tough and cool their shorts are.
If they thought unicycling was geeky, they would not have used it in their ad. Yes I know, how can a 24 hour ride be geeky? But the vast majority of readers just scan, and don’t read all the text. Now there are shorts good enough for unicyclists! The question is, can we order them in other countries (specifically the USA)?
Yes, you can order Dobies from other countries. Go to N-Zo’s website.
Personally I prefer Groundeffect’s Double Happy shorts to the Dobies. Funny thing is that I bought a pair of Dobies and couldn’t stand them. Shortly after that Ken won a pair of Double Happys at the Karapoti. We swapped shorts are were both happy!
I think it means that Tony has a skinnier butt than me. I hated the Ground Effects- was like wearing nappies. The N-ZO Dobies have a very minimal amount of stretchy padding which I found more to my liking. I won a pair of Ground Effect shorts at a bike race, hated them, and swapped them with Tony who bought the N-ZO’s and hated them. At the next race, which happened to be the 24hr Solo Moonride, the N-ZO people saw me wearing them, and gave me some free pairs.
The Dobies are comfy enough (IMHO) that I don’t need to wear bike shorts underneath, except when I rode my Carbon Fibre seat with foam strips I think, however, that for people who prefer more padding in their shorts they should go for the Ground Effects or else buy some inner padding which goes with the N-ZO’s. I think that’s a great idea- it’s better than having your undies sewn into the shorts
Both Ground Effect and N-ZO will deliver overseas. The exchange rate should make the shorts fairly reasonable in the US.
