Unicycling-now and then

Was unicycling more popular in decades past? Many older people (I’m 23) tell me
they “don’t see those much anymore” when they se me with my uni.

Remember “Welcome Back Kotter”? The opening and closing sequence convinced me to
learn to ride. I was watching reruns in the early 80’s. I don’t know when it was
filmed but I was watching reruns in the early 80’s.

This probably doesn’t help much but it’s what came to mind.

Hey, did Wally and the Beav ride uni’s?

Re: Unicycling-now and then

This is how I remenber it. In those years there was a lot of small circus
performances that toured up and down the valley. As a young person, [I’m now 48] I was enthralled by it all, but the unicycles stood out above everything
else. Also, I will never forget the Schwinn uni ads in my favorite magazine,
[Boys Life]. I hear alot of people throw rocks at the Schwinn uni for too much
weight, etc. but I’ll always treasure my Schwinns because they were made so
well and good looking. In addition to the Schwinn we had the very well made
Columbia and [before my time] the Loyd. It was a different time in all of our
lives, and the combination of the lack of so much technology, lack of so much
money kids have now to buy motorized toys, and the lack of many other
influinces, made the simplicity and challenge of the unicycle very desirable!!
Ride it with pride, Mike
