Unicycling newspaper article

A nice article on unicycling came out in our local paper yesteday, featuring my
son Beau and one of his friends who ride to school on unicycle.

The article only happened by accident: a photographer happened to see us arrive
at school on unicycle and snapped a picture. The editor saw it and assigned a
writer to do a short story. While taking pictures etc for the article, the
writer noticed my Telford mountain unicycle and started asking about it. As a
result the article expanded to a cover story and includes lots about Mountain
Unicycling, including great quotes from George Peck and Bruce Bundy, a photo of
Kris Holm, mention of John Foss & the Calif Muni Weekends, UNICON X, etc.

You can read it at http://www.lgwt.com/cover-9950.html

PS I erroneously told them I took the photo of Kris (from '98 Muni weekend). Now
I think I didn’t…anyone claim it?

Re: Unicycling newspaper article

Nice article. I’m sure you caught the obvious goof about “wheel locking” as
opposed to “wheel walking.” An easy mistake for people who aren’t familiar with
unicycles. What I found more objectionable about the article was something else.
Why is it every time an article is written about unicycles in a US newspaper the
author always starts off with “Unicycles, not just for the circus…?” I
attended a Barnum and Bailey and Company circus performance this past summer and
didn’t see one unicyclist. I guess they all quit the circus and went searching
for MUni trails!

I’ve had the pleasure to meet Nathan and Beau, and Beau’s riding ability knocked
my socks off.

Nice write up guys. You got lucky with a good journo, hardly a mention of circus
any where. Is it really the case that the UK and California have the highest
concentration of Muniers, I guess we’re about the same size, There are a fair
number of muniers on the european mainland, esp around the Alps, but not many
post to the NG as the is a languague barrier ( and my spelling to cope with
too). The first british Muni weekend had 25 ish Muniers, how bout the first
Californian? The BJC Muni ride often has 30 plus riders tho many are not really
INTO muni, just come along to see what we get up to in the woods.
