Unicycling Legacy

It appears that unicyling is a genetic skill. Here is a picture I found of my Dad in 1968 on a unicycle. I still have yet to see him on my unicycle. He thinks he’s going to hurt himself. Anyone know what kind of unicycle it is? It doesnt look very familar to me.

Could I have access to the full resolution scan? From the flat, white section on the front of the saddle I would say it was an Oxford. The chrome on the bottom and blue on the top of the forks suggests the same, if that’s what I’m seeing. It would have to have cottered cranks.

see if that is better

I can’t tell for sure. The frame looks all chrome. The lollipop bearings indicate something like a Zephyr, Savage, or one of their predecessors, not an Oxford which I believe had a fairly nice maincap arrangement. The saddle to seatpost junction makes the saddle appear to be a Savage or predecessor. I don’t see seatpost holes or a split frame like a Schwinn. It doesn’t appear to have separate cranks and pedals and looks more like a Troxel or tricycle axle design. Maybe Foss knows what it is. Especially if it’s a Troxel…he loathed them…but the wheel looks too big for a Troxel.

That’s a kewl find. How do we get your dad back on the uni?

that’s pretty sweet, my mom used to uni but she never got the hang of it. that unicycle looks like a schwinn to me.
