unicycling highpoints of 06

2006 has been a slow year for unicycling. no major videos have come out this year, no major unicycle models. maybe a few new tricks, but over all its been pretty unproductive. somebody please correct me if i’m wrong. what have beeen the highpoints of unicycle news this year?

i kinda feel cut! i only started this year.

well man, thats not bad because with any luck next year will have a new video or super nice model come out. besides you can always get the old stuff. have you seen defect? buy it if you haven’t. same goes for universe 2.

The new Koxx has just come out and UDC have a couple of new and improved nimbus frames coming out and it is only august. We’ve also just had a fantastic unicon

unicon is every year, so i’m sure every single one is fantastic. and are the new frames radically different than the old ones and far far superior?
06. uneventfull.

How bout Innner Balance coming out in the fall? And Union aswell. 2 movies which i expect will be fantastic…You cant call it a dead year half way through it.

And how about the huge evolution in Street that come over this year, its hard to ignore. And all the new members to the forum…All of these are excellent points to work on.

oooh. new movies? very well i retract my statement. what a wonderfull year.

by the way i’m serious. not being sarcastic.

Yup…Brians next movie(the first being Training Wheel Not Required) Is set to xome out in September i belive( I could be wrong, dont quote me) And Union(Austrian Riders) Is set to come out in October of this year.

Street Riding in 2006

Along the lines of street progression, we had the first ever street comp at Unicon, which happens every 2 years, and it was a success. It may not have been perfect, but if anything, we can learn from it to improve it for next time.
This has to be good news for street riding, encouraging others to ride street and those who already do, to progress.

As for other news, the popularity of the Bedford Prorider series shirts is positive although some of you may not agree. It may be a small victory but I believe it has opened up a new market for unicycle clothing aswell as bringing the reality of pro riders in unicycling that little bit closer. I say well done to Bedford and other companies who try and sponsor riders!

What? What? One second…

What?

There’s been a few major things…

  1. The creation of the Uni magazine.
  2. A lot more publicity in general, which can’t be denied; unicyclists are getting more coverage in the media than previous years.
  3. A HUGE advancement in street riding. When I first started riding back in November (not that long ago, I know, but bare with me), the term “street”, in the context of unicycling, was only a vague reference to combining flatland and trials, with no real tricks of its own, aside from maybe grinding and some crankflips and variations thereof. In the past 8-10 months, the street style of riding has quickly boomed into the most popular form of unicycling. If you don’t believe me, just look at the videos that people have been making; most of them are street tricks.

I’m sure there’s more. Plus, like someone else mentioned, the year is barely half over…don’t be impatient.

The KH/Schlumpf is coming out this year isn’t it? With the option of a 1:1.5 shiftable geared hub with splines, on any compatible KH uni… Pretty revolutionary!

There’s the first professional Uni magazine that’s also come out this year.

And at some point (when???) there’s going to be a new Coker, which I’d say is significant largely because of the huge historical importance of the Coker tyre company!

fixed.

yawns

crankflips are the dead horse of unicycling… i dunno why everyone has to keep beating on them.

I can’t do 'em. /shrug

of course UNI magizine
and peddle protectors

Maestro8, I don’t quite understand what the intention of your post was, but by making those comments, you seem to be undermining the skill of street riding. Street riders are just as skilled as freestyle and trials riders and, as the influx of street videos have shown, it is the most popular style at the moment.

But, this is off topic, I just wished to express my dislike towards your post.

Jas

The most popular style is normal riding. But i dont think that street is the second most popular style in the world. People only make trials and street vids there are realy no freestyle or hockey or race videos awaible. The most people who write in unicycle forums are mostly street or trials rider too. I think street and trials is the most growing unicycle disziplin.

Maybe it’s time you quit unicycling and look for something more
eventful?

Where on earth have you been?

  • Unicon
  • World Hour Record being pushed to 27.18km
  • The Laos Unitour
  • Schlumpfs Geared Unicycles (Ok, I know it came out last year, but have you seen how many Schlumpfs are around now?)
  • Uni magazine
  • Gracie Sorbellos’ epic ride across the US
  • The Tour Da Yoop

That’s just off the top of my head. Instead of complaining about this year being unproductive, why not create your own event/video/unicycle part/trick…

2006 has been a great year!
