Unicycling and high-wheel bicycling at Stanford Community Day, Ap

Hi all,

This is an invitation to come and check out the first-ever historic
cycling-oriented Stanford Community Day at Stanford University in Palo Alto,
CA. This event will take place on Sunday April 7, only two weekends from
now.

The event will be similar to the familiar Cyclebration event held in Davis
every year, and in fact, the high-wheel bicycle races are organized by the
same guy, Brody Hamilton. He now works at Stanford. As this is the first
year of the event, there will be high-wheel races, but no unicycle races.
This is a possible addition for next year, if the unicycling community shows
interest.

The cyclists are planning to recreate a historic 1891 photograph of the
Encina Wheelmen, on the steps of one of the campus buildings that still
stands. Then there will be the races starting at 11:00, one or more unicycle
shows by me starting at 12:15, an “Interactive Bicycle Safety City” for kids
5-12, and the famous Perfection on Wheels BMX stunt team at 11:30, 1:00, and
2:00. This is the same BMX group that has also performed at the Davis
Cyclebration every year.

Unicyclists are encouraged to attend. If there are a group of us, they would
like us to spend a few minutes to hand out some promotional items or flyers.
In return, all unicyclists will receive a free T-shirt and lunch.

So come on down, local people!

The event does not have its own Web site, but there may be another message
from Ariadne Delon Scott, the event’s coordinator.

Stay on top,
John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone
