Unicycling after 50

Some people do , that’s how they make it work, it’s not the same but it may be close enough to give them some satisfaction. Some people just have to give cheese cake up totally or die. Of course we are taking unicycles not cheese cake.
I see one of my older neighbors that used to run 5k, and 10k races and marathons to now walking the neighborhood because that’s what his body lets him do. He is not giving up he is still out there., I watched him go from running to a very slow labored jog to walking. I’m sure as he walks he thinks about all of the races he has completed and how he fended the effects of aging off as long as he could.

Yes, you are. Makes you feel younger, though, isn‘t it?

“I started riding the 36er at 48, and I’m still riding it today at 60. I mostly do sidewalk riding, with some rough terrain here and there, but overall it’s all in good fun. Now it’s time to hit the city sidewalks in SoCal.”

I love this by the way Cayenne Pepper does wonders for knee pain and suffering. Works for me when my knees get irritated. :+1:t5:

That‘s interesting. How do you apply it? Dust the knee, then bandage it?

EDIT: Thinking about it, it might make more sense to mix it with oil before applying…

no : just add it to the chili con carne !

No chili con carne for me. I‘m more the spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino person :spaghetti:

So am i! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Maybe there should be a sub forum like „unicyclists and food“
To get somewhat back on topic: I’m not 50 yet but slowly getting closer. Unicycling is a double-edged sword for me. On the one hand it’s my main form of physical activity (some would call it sport, but in my case that’s a bit of an exaggeration, most of the time). On the other hand my knees don‘t like it when I‘m riding like more than half an hour.
My main use of a uni is that of a means of transportation. Bought myself a 29er for this, and it sees far more frequent use than my 20er and my 26er muni.

Really so.

I’m not sure what you mean by really so?

Could you please clarify what you mean by really so?

I have set up the tyre if this type

Nice to hear. It seems good so far for me.

Glad to join this group so I can hear about other ‘older’ unicyclists.

My uncle started unicycling in his late 40s, and while he’s not doing crazy tricks, he loves distance riding and exploring new trails.

Your uncle and I mirror each other in all of those ways.

I started in my 30s, now almost 60, I don’t do tricks, I just love distance rides.

As spring arrives here in the north east in the United States I myself am anxious to get out and ride. After a long winter of riding indoor in close quarters I was able to get out for a 3 mile ride under warm but very windy conditions. That was enough to get myself back and comfortable in the saddle.

I’m encouraging all of you older riders to get out there and ride and wishing you all a great season on one wheel. Please post your experiences here as they will be an inspiration to all older riders

I’m right there with you, Bug. I’ve taken my 24 out for a couple under-2-mile rides just for easy practice. Last weekend I did just over 12 miles on my g29 and remembered why I need to remember bike shorts…

I tallied up the mileage I tracked in 2024, and it’s somewhere around 400 total miles from March through November. I’m planning to beat that this year. I’m also thinking about getting a 20" to make learning basic tricks easier. I figure the window is closing for me to learn things like hopping and I should make it easier any way I can
