I’ve run my 32” on rollers, you still need something to hold on to though. I have these floating Elite ones which I thought might make things easier with a unicycle as they can move back and forth to aid balance, I’m not sure it helped any. Running a bike on rollers takes a bit of practice to get really comfortable on them but I didn’t persevere too long with the unicycle.
I seem to remember that Terry (unigeezer) has some videos of him using a roller setup.
This picture is from my second day of riding in 2026. I have been concentrating on mounting and riding my different size wheels. On day one I concentrated on my 24 and 26 just to get myself broken in after a long winters nap. This picture is day 2 with my 26, 29 and my 32. Mounting and riding went really well, I’m really happy with my first few runs of the year. On my 29er I’m starting the year with a new tire, I have opted to try the maxis Icon as the bulk of the the riding I have been doing on my 29er is on a bike trail that is a little gravely in sections. The icon has a low knobby tread and a bit off a sticky feel to the compound.
Today, day three I hopped on the the 29er and went for a two mile ride before work today. The tire handled quite nicely on asphalt, I can’t wait to try the trail. All in all I feel I’m quite ready to dive in to this riding season, I hope all of you over 50 riders get out there, wether you are learning or experienced get out there this one wheeled machine is like the fountain of youth.
That Ikon would either dual or triple compound hence the sticky feel. It ticks lots of boxes as a unicycle tyre, particularly the light weight and flexible carcass. The EXO technology has a sidewall protection which is a good feature on gravel, particularly if there are sharp rocks.
BTW A 29 uni tyre suited to the tarmac is the Maxxis Torch.
I rode a Schwable hurricane on my 29er for years, and love it. It is semi slick in the center with small knobbies on the sides. This is a nice tire for pavement and crushed limestone. The crushed lime stone trail I’m riding a lot with the 29er sustained some storm damage last year. Large section were washed out and repaired with gravel for the time being. So I’m back to an off-road tire at least for now.. My hurricane is waiting patiently in the garage for another day in the sun.
