For comparison, “Caucasian” meant a person with the characteristics associated with a white person from the Caucasian mountains of the USSR: pale skin, usually blue/green eyes, straightish hair, etc.

that’s a common misconception: in Russia people from the caucasus are referred as “black ass”! There are very different people around those mountains!
