Unicycles NOT in a commercial

AT&T is running an ad focusing on how everyone is an individual and how their services cater to this characteristic of human communications needs. The usual BS.

To visually bring this point across the ad features animated bicyclists and their riders going across the screen. The usual suspects are shown, including tandems, recumbents, etc. Yes we’re all different. However there isn’t a single unicycle/unicyclist in the mix.

Of course, my (our) interest in unicycling would make me (us) sensitive to the omission, nevertheless I find it odd. Certainly the general population is familiar enough with unicycles and they are, to be sure, different, such that you’d think they would have included one in the ad. In fact, when I first saw the ad I was waiting to see which kind they would use, standard height or a giraffe, not even doubting that one would be included. Imagine my surprise.

Now that Verizon offers long distance in New Jersey, I’ve told my wife we should switch. She finds it somewhat amusing that this would be my motivation. (By the way, do we have a word analogous to “muggle” for non-unicyclists?)

Verizon has used a unicyclist in a mail out advertisment.

more suggestions?

The digital camera I bought recently was from www.iwantoneofthose.com - they sent me a catalogue which advertises a “one wheeled unicycle”.

As opposed to a two-wheeled one?*

*Yes, I know they exist, but I doubt the average punter at iwoot needs them to specify which!

Phil, just me

any two wheeled bicycles?

Re: Unicycles NOT in a commercial

As I was driving home from my kids swimming lessons my 6 year old son
spotted a couple of kids on a BMX bicycle. One was pedalling it and the
other was standing on foot-pegs on the rear wheel.

My son said, “Look Dad! They’ve got a two-wheeled unicycle with only one
seat.”

We got a good laugh.
