Unicycles and Gulf Oil?

My father-in-law visited us tonight, and he brought a gift for me that some of
you may be interested in.

One of his hobbies over the years has been collecting old magazines like
Fortune, Saturday Evening Post, etc. My gift was a page that he found in the
November 2nd, 1957 edition of the Saturday Evening Post. It is a full page color
ad for Gulf Oil. The text of the ad reads:

"Something we try to keep in mind every day

never sit still

It is our job to keep discovering new things…developing new things…doing new
things. By keeping on the move, we serve you…better.

Gulf Oil Corporation"

Along with this text is a large painting of a scientist idling on a 24"
unicycle. He is holding a test tube in each hand; one is corked and the
other one seems to be undergoing a reaction judging by the white vapor
coming out of it.

The unicycle is accurately drawn, showing good detail with cottered cranks,
rubber steel-ended platform pedals, a tubular red frame, and 36 spoke
gray-wall wheel.

This one is definately suitable for framing!

Hey Ric …

You always come up with cool stuff!

Could you possibly scan that ad and attach it to another post for us all to
appreciate??

Gilby asked me that too… It’s pretty big, (remember those old Saturday Evening
Posts?) but there might be enough white space around the margins to allow me to
get most of it anyway…I’ll see what I can do! If I’m sucessful I’ll put it up
on my web page and make an announcement here.

Would that violate any copyright laws?
