Unicycle Ride for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease)

In January of 2013, my brother Tim was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” To raise awareness of the disease and to help fund much needed research for ALS, I’ll be riding a 36” unicycle for 36 miles on April 26, 2014 as a participant of The Gambler Bike Ride in Athens, GA. For more info, see the link below.

Such a great cause, and my best wishes go out to you’re brother Tim.

Thanks for the wishes, MuniAddict! And many thanks for your inspirational videos.

Best wishes to you and your brother Tim.

I will definitely be donating for your cause. My grandpa and uncle both dies of this terrible disease. I just need to make some more money. Remind me in a few weeks.

Had not planned to ride the gambler and had made other plans. Will now definitely ride the gambler(on my 29" muni) and donate.

Special thanks to all who have offered support thus far for my big ride in April - be it in the form of supportive words, a financial contribution, or just cheering me on. I so appreciate hearing from MuniAddict, Unicyclist Lou, unicycle6869, and gorgescrambler! All of your posts increase my motivation and decrease my UPDs! If you feel so inclined, please spread the word and ride on!

Up for the Down Stroke

Here is a training video as I prepare for the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) benefit ride on April 26, 2014. Inspired by UniGeezer!

Gotta get up that North Avenue hill!

Jeff, good luck on the ride. I usually do a walk in Charlotte for ALS. Seeing this disease up close is moving. As uni riders, we are very fortunate to have the motor skills to do what we do; it’s easy to take it for granted.

Thanks for leading by example.

“Team ALS Sucks” unicycling jerseys are in!

The new “Team ALS Sucks” cycling jerseys are in! Expertly designed by Brian Roth of Southern Brewing Company. My wife was wise to recommend an “XXL” rather than an “XL” to accommodate my gut! The Gambler ride is Saturday.

I made it! 36 miles on “The Gambler” course on a unicycle!

Many thanks to the Unicyclist Community for encouragement to finish “The Gambler” course on a unicycle yesterday! We’ve made more than $1500 to benefit the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease) so far at www.UniRideForALS.org.

Special thanks to gorgescrambler for riding his 29-er! It was great to see another unicycle out on the course.

Glad to see the dollars for ALS and to be a part of the effort.
As I rode the uni out of town I came up on a little girl riding a small bike with training wheels(grandmother helping her). When she saw me coming she stopped and waited until I got close and yelled “hey mister I like your bike”. I said back “hey, I like your bike even better”. My reward was the biggest smile from that proud little girl riding her bike.
