Harry Potter readers may already know what I’m talking about but those yet to
met the young wizards and witches of Hogwarts schhol, let me explain. Quidditch
is a game played by 7 broomstick riders, using 4 balls, six goals and two clubs.
Mark Rushton has been giving some thought to the playing of Quidditch on
unicycles , as have I and we think we have come up with a workable form of the
game, for 7 unicyclists a side . Any body interested in playing a trial game at
the British Juggling convention?
Shuntbumps is little known broomstick game from England with rules idential to
unicycle gladiators, where players push and shove each other with the aim of
being last still riding. See Quidditch Through the Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp (
page 6) if you don’t believe me.
I expect we will play shuntbumps at the BJC as well.We have done for years with
out knowing the conection between our game and the broomstick one.

Pshas any one else noticed that Roger Davies is the ravenclaw house Quidditch

Ah, but how will you control the Golden Snitch?

Yes we noticed that as we read #4 - very cool. Your unicycle game sounds pretty
fun, but I bet the real thing on flying broomsticks would really be a winner.

Another thought occurs to me Sarah - will Muggles be allowed to watch, or will
you use a muggle-repellent charm?

Or for that matter how do the bludgers and beaters work? I guess you could
always replace the balls with unicyclists. (Picture two large guys riding around
trying to smash everyone off and a small fast person for the snitch

is.sarah

Peter Bier asked: > Ah, but how will you control the Golden Snitch?
The @Bristol gift shop sells bouncy eggs. It wouldn’t be controlled as such, but
it’d be a real challenge to catch. I can see a few problems with the Golden
Snitch Egg though.
The only way to keep it inside the playing area would be to play in an enclosed
area. Someone would have to set it bouncing again every time it stopped. We
couldn’t allow seekers to catch it while it’s stopped. It wouldn’t actively
avoid players, so would be a bit of a hazard.
