Just thought I’d comment on a kids’ TV program that I saw the other day.
It’s called Tiny Planets and is a daily 10 minute animation featuring a
couple of aliens. Cute ones that kids probably identify with. Maybe.
Anyways, in this episode each received a gift - one had a tricycle and
the other a unicycle. At first the one with the unicycle was miffed
because he couldn’t ride it - his friend was riding around quite happily
on the tricycle. As he practises on the unicycle he gets the hang of it
and ends up riding half-pipes etc. having much more fun than the one on
the tricycle.
I thought it made a nice change to see unicycling portrayed in such a
positive light - don’t give up just because something is difficult at
first. No circus, no Fucik.
Regards,
Mark.
P.S. No I don’t watch all kids programs looking for unicycles - I’ve got
a TiVo to do that for me.

New comeback?:
Unconverted: No where’s your other wheel?
One-wheeler: The alien with the trike’s got it.
Unconverted: <nonplussed> ???

Argh, I’m turning American.

Ahem. Glad we’ve got that one sorted.

the tv show idea reminded me
is it possible to get a unicyclist intot he studio audience at a taping of ‘who’s line is it anyway’ to shout ‘UNICYCLE!’ really loudly when they call for suggestions from the audience?
i dont even know where it’s taped
i just thought i’d throw the thought out there…

Works for me.
> Can you make a video from what’s on the TiVo?
Technically, yes. It just requires a scart from the TiVo to a VCR.

So to return to the original point, are tricycles frowned upon by afficionadoes of the half pipe and quarter pipe? Do tricyclists use a third pipe? I think we should be told.
I look forward to meeting tricyclists when I’m uniing so I can say, ‘So it was you!’
(I also look forward to seeing Canadian canoeists so I can ask ‘Where’s your other paddle?’)

>it was you!’
Or, if he was dumb enough to ask “where’s your other wheel”, there
would be a good choice of new comebacks.
A few months ago I was riding round Rother Valley Country Park when I met a disabled bloke coming the other way in a hand propelled tricycle.
Him: Where’s your other wheel?
Me: You’ve go the bogger!
On the next lap of the lake, I met him again and we had a great chat. His trike had 63 gears! (3 chain ring x 7 sprockets x 3 speed sun-and-planet hub). he proudly boasted of 27 mph down hill on this thing with a massive wheel base, steered and propelled by hand, and with his legs held in place with bungees! He was asking me if I knew any local off road routes he could manage on it. Respect to him.
(Note for US readers: Bogger, rather than the similar word with a u, is a Midlands expression without offensive connotations. I believe the etymology derives from ‘dweller in the bog’, the bog being a wide area of marshland by the River Trent, now known as Broadmarsh and graced by a shopping centre of that name. This is true.)
yes, i have also seen many shows with unicycles. one was a kids show about math and a guy(college student) rode his uni to his grandma’s house. (he made a graph of his distance/time ratio)
then there was a documentary all about unicycles, so… there really is a lot of stuff out there “glorifying” the unicycle population.
