Hello!!
Has anyone ever tried the unicycle movie from the following site? If you have,
could I get a review of it?

Wow Chris, you seem to have been combing the Web for all the unicycle stuff! I
never heard of this one. Jepson Pottery, in Geneva Florida seems to be offering
a Learn to Unicycle video for $34.95 (plus shipping I imagine). The description
tells of one unnamed guy (“I”) learning to ride, and you can too. It doesn’t
give any details about the tape at all.
My consumer advice is:
On the other hand, the world needs a good unicycle instruction video. Is there
another one already out there? Not that I know of. So if this one is even a
little bit good (I bet it is), it’s the best ‘learning’ video on the market.
I hope somebody will check it out and let us know!

Has anybody ordered this video? I would be interested in hearing a review.
If nobody has ordered the video I’ll breakdown and buy it just to see what
learning techniques are suggested.

At this site i thought i saw a picture of guy on a unicycle and that appeared to
be the same person that i saw in some of the pottery pictures. After looking
around the site(s) i think Mr Jepson has two hobbies outside what appears to be
a carear in pottery: videography and unicycling. He’s made a little extra on the
pottery video’s so why not a uni video?

I agree, but maybe one hint at the length is how long it took him to learn how
to ride. In the description it states that he learned how to ride in 30 minutes.
This kind of worries me because i know this is not the case for most people,
even with the best instruction. On the other hand, if only i had this video 17
years ago than maybe it wouldnt have taken me two weeks of practicing for 1-2
hours every day to learn how to ride!

There are two reasons to buy Jepson’s 5 in 1 video. One is to have a good laugh
and the other is if you wish to see the worst possible way to learn something.
If you want to learn to unicycle do yourself a favor, save yourself $35, and
don’t buy this video.
We decided that we wanted to see how Jepson Pottery taught unicycling so we went
out and bought his 5 in 1 video. It covers knife throwing, juggling, unicycling,
slack rope and tight rope. Five unicyclists watched the tape and we could not
believe our eyes. If you are in the right mood Jepson will have you in fits.
Lets just say a 54 year old man dressed in
psychadelic shirts, or a superman costume, is hard to take seriously. Of the
five things that Jepson is trying to teach we were familiar with all but
knife throwing.
He spends the first 10 minutes of the video explaining which objects should not
be thrown at a target. To be fair his throwing is very accurate but in half an
hour he doesn’t actually explain how to throw a knife. Things go rapidly down
hill from there.
Jepson took 2 and a half years to learn to juggle 3 balls. Follow his
instructions and you too can repeat this experience. It’s a pity that
someone who talks so well in front of the camera doesn’t have teaching
material to match.
By contrast he learned to ride a unicycle in 20 minutes. Unfortunately that’s
all he learnt, placing him firmly on level zero, where he has stayed for the
past 17 years. It would be nice if someone showed him how to mount or turn. Even
better, someone could set his seat at the right height. He himself learned in a
dairy barn, this is not something that is usually too accessible for most
people. Jepson suggests that people learn how to ride a unicycle by learning to
lean against the wall with both hands on the wall. While this method can work,
there are much better ways of learning how to ride. Out of the hour video, about
five minutes is spent on unicycling.
The slack rope section would be more interesting if he did anything besides
balancing in place on the rope. There is but one thing to say on the subject of
Jepson on tight rope walking - Jepson in tights. Visualize it if you dare.
This may be a harsh review but the message is simple, don’t buy this video if
you are serious about learning what he is trying to teach.
