I’m sure those two aren’t the first to try unicycle jousting. It would be
interesting to find out who was crazy enough to actually try it first. Has
anyone tried jousting on a giraffe? And a mini giraffe doesn’t count.

The above web page mentions that Brian Lewis originally did it in the mid 70’s
at Oregon State University. Maybe he saw the pictures in the USA Newsletter or
vice-versa. The guys in Canada were a little more safety conscious though; they
used rolled up computer paper for lances, so they would crumple on impact.
Unicycle jousting just seems like such an appropriate activity sometimes. We
should probably add it to our competitions…
I’m assuming that once you fall off the unicycles, you produce razor sharp
juggling machetes and dual to the death. This would make it closer to real
horseback jousting
There was some impromptu giraffe unicycle jousting at the 5th British Juggling
Convention in Coventry (1992, IIRC). This was the conclusion to a round of
giraffe unicycle gladiators during the games in the lower precinct - a paved
shopping area. Only two riders were mad enough to participate and after some
time with neither of them being knocked down, someone produced some makeshift
lances and the jousting began.
Regards, Mark.

A Mini giraffe would be too hard! (unless it had it’s cheat seat post). It is
the British Juggling Convention soon and I will have 2 x 5’ giraffes with me so
I will give it a try.
