Unicycle Games

I was looking at that Microsoft picture, and it appears the riders are using
wooden lances. Padded ends or not, ouch! This may work well for basic-level
riders, but it looks like it could do a lot of damage in the hands of
strong, solid riders.

Well, I guess it would to a lot of damage with knights on horses as well, so
have at it. I’ll stick to Sumo and other games with smaller weapons…

I’ve did some unicycle jousting in Cambridge. We basically just got some
long wooden broom handles and went for it with three riders, two 24"
unicycles and a Coker. I think I was probably wearing gloves because I
didn’t get hurt hands at all, but no other safety gear. The amount it hurts
depends more on the level of the person being pushed than the pusher, as
crap riders will be knocked off straight away. If you don’t allow grabbing
people / unicycles it’s quite cool and balances out quite nicely because the
heavier and less manouvrable Coker rider is much harder to push over with a
stick. However there’s less scope for imagination than in gladiators, so
once you get a bit good it takes ages to knock anyone off.

Hi.

The games collection is coming along nicely, thank you. I have about 32
various games so far, including relays, pairs games, tag games, and a bunch
of new ones.

I think Sharks and Minnows (aka British Bulldog) is known around here as Pom
Pom Pullaway, and by several other names as well. There are also lots of
variations to this game, such as playing it in pairs.

I’m working on putting these together with directions. Also including
possible variations and level adjustments, so that riders of various
abilities can all play at the same time.

If you want to try out some, or if you have other game suggestions, please
let me know.

Thanks very much for all the ideas!

If that means that you’re compiling one document that integrates all
of the replies you’ve gotten, I’d be interested to have a copy when
you’re done. I image that more people in the group would want it,
otherwise I would appreciate very much if you could send it to my
private e-mail (you can figure out how to modify it to make it a valid
address).

Thanks,
Klaas Bil
