There was an older fella who walked for exercise and fun every morning in my town. He was always wearing huge cartoon gloves like these (image below). It was awesome. He’d wave to the cars passing by. It always made me smile.
It cracks me up just thinking about wearing glove like these while riding my uni. I do tend to give a friendly wave to folks. It breaks the ice, let’s 'em know I don’t take myself too seriously, and sometimes results in a little conversation.
Has anyone tried gloves like these?
If only there was a leather version that would hold up to UPDs. They already have gobs of padding.
People look at me like crazy when I come cycling even though I do not have such gloves, so maybe they will call the men in white coats if I come cycling with those put on. Besides, I can not decide which finger I am to cut off.
It occurred to me that baseball gloves/mitts, particularly the really old-school versions, are pretty much a leather version of the cartoon gloves…and they have five fingers!
There was a review video on the USA Unicycle.com site with two kids riding in witches costumes and the broom was attached under the saddle. It was really cool!
About 10 years ago, I used to be be a volunteer at a young people’s circus group (initially teaching uni, but lots of other skills as well)
I got roped into doing some shows as ‘John the Giraffe’ plus others, one as a Unicycling business man at the opening of a new University (before retirement & becoming a volunteer, I was IT director for a big company - so wearing the suit came naturally! )
I’m guessing it’s a dementor, so the unicycle adds to it since they’re supposed to float. I think that an enclosure around the wheel would have worked better than building the costume out though. A couple of coroplast campaign signs and some duct tape could make a very effective wheel enclosure. You could make one out of cardboard too, but not so good if it rains.
Personally, I’d use roller skates, but then it wouldn’t be a unicycle costume.
