Unicycle.com UK wanting help

Hi Guys,

We are working on a new website at the moment and we are looking for images to go above the unicycle sub-categories.

We are looking for images that show people riding unicycles to describe the following categories:
Learner (12"-20")
Adult Learner (20-24")
Freestyle (16-24")
Trials & Street (19-20")
All-Terrain (Muni)
Road (26-36")
Specialist
Giraffe

Does anyone have any images they think definitely describe these categories?

Roger

Hi Roger,

You should have a look at the best pics of 20xx threads. These were candidates to make calendars but can also be a good source of candidates. Then, it is easy to MP the people for consent.

It may not cover all your categories but can help for some.

You forgot to give us the dimensions. If it’s a super-wide, super-flat image, for example, that matters a lot! Please give it in pixels, because that’s what the Web is made of.

BTW, I just posted my Unicon pix! Yes that’s right, Unicon 18 is up, while Unicon 17 is still languishing on my hard drive.

If you see anything you like, I can deliver it to you at the exact size you need, optimized for Web.

Now that is an impressive bit of computer speak, and knowledge in my book… beats me hollow, well done sir… !! :sunglasses:

All I said was Pixels. It’s more than just a dumb Adam Sandler movie.

For those that have been to my horribly outdated web site, it may be hard to believe but I used to make those for a living, for Intel and other companies. Not just pixels, but Web content. But I know most of the people with the best pictures aren’t interested in sizing them down to specific spaces; let the UDC geeks figure that out.

We are wanting images for our headers that would work about 300x300 pixels… but we can deal with that. Big is better as we can work this that.

Roger

Well, don’t feel bad. I’m an avid, amateur digital photographer and image editor, and I wasn’t sure what John meant by “flat”, but I’m self-taught and don’t know all the jargon. I think he means that there is no color enhancement, allowing the editor maximum flexibility to process the color in the image to suit their design style. Is that right, John?

That is great, thank you everyone. John, you have some absolutely fantastic photos there! I will email you with regard the ones we are wanting to use.

We are going to be working on the category headers this week coming and are hoping to go live on Tuesday, 18th October.

The image that we are really struggling on is:

ADULT LEARNER (20-24") - ideally this is a adult learning to ride? Any suggestions?

Roger

You are welcome to a picture of me, but I’m probably not a typical adult learner!

Is there a typical adult learner? I think that is the problem.

Point me to the pictures and I will have a look.

Roger

Actually nothing so technical; it was a crude description of the shape of the image, based on many of the images on the Unicycle.com USA site, at around 100px high by 400px wide. So based on the spec Roger just gave, one can look for images that will work well cropped square.

I look forward to contributing to the new site, with some images that are actually current!

(Now I’m starting to work my way through our “Canada” photos from 2014, including Unicon 17…)

This reminded me of a series of shots from when I was learning (on a 24" Club).

Example:

Probably not bad as an example of an adult learner, maybe not the best angle!

Looks like the seats too low - no wonder it took me so long!

Adult learner

I think this one is a good example

Apparently, adult learners can only be photographed from somewhere off their right shoulder…

I love that one! Totally representative!

Hi guys,

Ok, new site is up…

It is not complete, but no point waiting for every last little bit to get working!

We are still working on images and we know that some of the links are not working.

Things that are a big update on the previous site and you may enjoy:

Our new FAQs:

and the new spoke calculator interface:

We would also like your help with a new feature on the site, we now have a Testimonial section on the site… it is rather empty at the moment! would you mind giving us some feedback via this:

Thanks

Roger
