I’ve got a PDHPE assignment and I’m going to do it on unicycling:D
Help would be appreciated:)
Ill write out all the questions although I can pretty much answer them but if you have a comment or suggestion for an answer, that would be great
a) A description of the activity
b) The contact details of revelant clubs and facilities or associations where an individual may go th get involved in the activity (Sydney)
c) The clothing and or equipment that an induvidual will require to participate in the activity
d) A breakdown of all the relevant costs that a person will incur when participating in the activity
e) A description / list of all the health benefits to individuals if they choose to participate in the activity
bibliography
We were meant to do it on either a poster or powerpoint but screw that, i’ve already started on a windows movie maker vid. We have to answer the Qs above in a speech while presenting the vid
I’ve done some clips to start (sync’d 2 “eye of the tiger”) and was thinking of doing stills while talking.
Im sure all you guys that have been riding for years would have some good answers,
Cheers guys,
Sam
It seems like the only possibly difficult question would be B seeing how there are not many unicycling “facilities”. Its always nice to do assignments on unicycling because they tend to be interesting and origional, and get good grades. Good Luck
a) describe (copy and paste) a description of street, muni/mountain unicycle, distance riding, learning - if you are struggling to find unicycle info try looking for BMX/other bike info as this is a bit similar.
b)google
c)unicycle, flat smooth surface, shin, elbow, knee, wrist and head protection. could maybe add that learning to ride a uni is a bit safer than learning on a bike 'cos you can jump off so many folk dont use safety gear when learning although tread carefully with this one, safety is paramount in any organised activity!
d) cheap 20" unicycle for learning=$50-70USD, a good kris holm uni is a lot more, stick a price in for that too. for protective gear check out a bike shop website.
e)similar to riding a bike/BMX really, bit of cardio, strengthens legs, improves balance and co-ordination but injury is quite likely if you are being a bit mad about it!
But if you like riding, something strange happens and you get a better uni, and more gear, then different size uni’s, then customized parts, then a Triton Ti Frame, KH/Schlumpf geared hub, Scott Wallis seat, Magura brakes, Large Marge Rim, and MG-1 pedals. Yep, you can spend $3,000+ on a single unicycle. Is it necessary to spend that much? Definitely not. But it is still cheaper than a top of the line mountain bike!
no idea, i am on the northern beaches of sydney, and i dont know of any real clubs or anything near me, HOWEVER apparently there is a bunch of people that play unicycle hockey in newtown on sunday mornings (i dont know if it is weekly/monthly).
do you unicycle? if not, you should. try to find lots of people and start a club.
I uni, and love it
I go for a ride with my other uniing friend every weekend
Plus we have one other rider that can ride alright and 3 others learning
We’ll have our gang us soon maybe:)
a)
A unicycle is a vehicle with one wheel, that is pedal driven and kept upright and steered with body balence. Unicycling is a surprisingly extensive and large sport, although not very common in our area.
There are many, many, different types of unicycle riding; here are a few. Street riding is when a rider uses urban objects to make combinations by hopping, riding or even grinding. Freestyle or flatland unicycling is doing tricks or stunts on a unicycle, on a flat surface. Mountain Unicycling or Muni is like mountain biking, an offroad sport enjoyed in natural environments. Trials riding is getting over objects and obstacles by hopping and riding. Touring or commuting is done with a very large wheeled unicycle that can reach high speeds for covering ground. b)
It is pretty easy to get involved in unicycling by buying your own unicycle but help and support can be great. There is a group of riders that meet at Castle Hill High every Tuesday and Friday at 7:30 and sometimes on the weekends. There is a group of Unicyclists that meet on Sunday mornings in Newtown to play unicycle hockey too. Unicyclist.com can be a great place for answers, tips and help about unicycles, tricks and anything your having trouble with. c)
To get involved in unicycling you probably will need a unicycle. Learning to ride can be a shakey time so protective gear can be helpful. A helmet, shin, knee, elbow and wrist guards will help you get your confidence and protection up. d)
Unicycles vary in price and quality greatly, a starter unicycle costing as low as $40 on Ebay. These won’t last for long whereas a very good quality unicycle, a Kris Holm, costs $650 and will last most riders forever. There are many unis that cost even more than this but a good quality learner unicycle will cost around $180.
Special unicycle designed protective gear will cost $225 for wrist, elbow and leg and knee protection. Helmet costs vary but you most likley already have one at home. e)
Unicycling is a very challenging and athletic sport. Unlike bike riding, when riding a unicycle, you always have to pedal, even downhill. Flat riding exercises most of the body, including legs, abdomen and arms. Hopping gives a big workout to your legs and arms and like all riding, increases cardio vascular fitness.
Unicycling increases coordination and propreoception which assist in other sports. Unicycling is taught in 95% of japanese primary schools as research has suggested that unicycling helps general concentration, aswell as fitness.
Thats as far as i’ve got so far
Suggestion would be great guys
(its due next thursday)
Mmkay. Their website tells that- i dont think theres one mention of unicycles, although i havnt had a good look, but yeah no1 would know…(dah dah dahhh)
