Unicon XII is upon us -- some final words

Hi all,

Unicon is only a couple of days away, and Unicon fever as well as up to
40 degrees heat is in full blaze. We are all busy here in preparing
the ground for a successful convention, and I am sure that with your
help it will indeed be great.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone contributing to Unicon,
especially the officers as well as members of the various committees,
for your tremendous efforts. There are too many names to mention so I
will just say a warm-hearted thanks to you all.

This brings to an end my own role in preparing for Unicon, which was to
organize and help teams from Asian countries, as well as countries with
little or no Unicon experience. To briefly summarize, I am happy to say
that for the first time we will have a “real team” from Israel (I
always represented Israel), and we will once again have participation of
Hong Kong, the Philppines and China. The Chinese had great difficulties
in getting visas, and we have been in almost daily contact with them to
help them., Thank God, 11 of them will make it, though originally 30
were scheduled to come.

I am sad to report that other than the possible participation of the
president of Brazil Unicycle Association which I helped established last
year (I went to Sao Paulo to do promotion), because of economic reasons
the Brazilian team will not make it. On the other hand, the Korean team
will make it. The only other Unicon they attended is Unicon III 17 years
ago in Tokyo (1987).

Let’s work together to make this the greatest Unicon ever!!

Everyone take lots of pictures and videos for those of us staying behind please.

David

in an article posted on the ‘Unicycle Articles…but wait, there’s more’ thread, it was mentioned that john foss was one of only two men to have attended all 11 unicons to date

i’m curious, and since nobody else did, i’ll ask the obvious question

who’s the other one?

Man that’s crazy… but I’d also like to know who else attended them all. I havn’t been riding long enough for it to be worth it to go to this unicon, but hey… maybe next? Shame that’s a full 2 years away but it gives me time to get good I guess?

Robbie, Unicon is worth going to for any level, you dont have to compete and if u do its only a bit of fun. Unicon 11 i only did long jump i think. I went for a experience, theres so many differnt country’s that attend its great. Its a big inspire’er anyway, watching the japanese do all there stuff in person rather then on a video.
Has anyone actually got a video of one of the japanese doing backwards stood up glide to pirrotte to normal pirrotte? I saw it at unicon 11 and was totally shocked it was actually possible.

Trev

I bet that Ken Fuchs has also attended all 11 UNICONs to date.

Yup, it’s Ken.

I second that. especially videos of japanese freestyle.

Woohooo!

See you all there.

Unicon is every two years!? Crap! Now I’ll never be able to go! In 2 years I’ll be going to the National Order of the Arrow Conference (Boy Scouts, which is actually next week), and also the World Jamboree.

Is it ever held in winter?

given that we have such a mild winter compared to the northern hemisphere, when Unicon XYZ is held in South Africa, we might have it in winter

after all, it’s only about 3 months long and this is the colour of the sky
