They are on Friday, August 2.

Will there be trials obstacles set up on other days for people to just mess around on, like at NUC last summer?

anyone got the day schedual?

Most (if not all) questions about UNICON are answered at the NWCUE website.

The day schedule can be found at:

All of the above, hopefully, it’s just a matter of sourcing material to build it.

The NAUCC/UNICON schedules are here:
http://www.nwcue.org/events/schedules.html

Unfortunately these are large downloads, and a little hard to read.
Hopefully there will be a more time-ordered, text-based version of the
schedules available by convention time, with everything included such as
these pre-planned rides. Workshops will also be added, as a schedule for
them is worked out.

So if I read this correctly, it looks like the Muni and the trials competitive events will all be on Friday, 8/2? Is that right?

The pdf file on nwcue.org has muni competitions on Friday 8/2, and David Maxfield mentions in this thread that trials competition will also be on Friday 8/2. This seems odd.

The pdf schedule also has muni events slated for Monday 7/29 through Thurs 8/1, but no description. I would guess that the details haven’t been worked out yet.

Who is in charge of scheduling Muni and trials events? I would assume that many Muniists are also trials fanatics, so overlap in these areas might be an issue for some, especially considering that (my impression) the events might be geographically far apart.

The reason I’m spouting about all this is that I might only be able to sqeeze in three days at Unicon, so I REALLY want to make sure that I show up when the best part of Muni and trials is happening.

I was at NUC last year and I realize that muni and trials are very impromptu, and it’s a lot of work to organize, with everything else that’s happening at the convention. I also realize that it’s still a bit early. Just want to throw my 2 cents out now in the hopes that it will become clear as the date approaches.

Basically, I’ll be happy as a pig in sh** if I can get solid technical muni riding (H*^A*^R*^D*^C*O^*R^*E^), (will this be censored?) and play on the trials playground everyday that I’m there, with others of a similar inclination. Course I’d love to be there for the whole time and participate in as much as possible, but, may not have that option.

Does anyone have any idea roughly WHEN these details will be available?
Joe

Re: Unicon trials days

The ski lift at the Summit at Snoqualmie will only run one day–August 2.
People are free to hike up on the other days, but John Childs is organizing
informal Muni rides that will be a heck of a lot more fun than that. John will
post a schedule near the end of this week.

The Trials competitions and the Muni competitions are all scheduled for August
2 (sometime that day). Their timing won’t conflict with each other. The details
are still being worked out.

As Kris said in an earlier post, he will try to get a trials course set up
earlier in the week so that people can practice.

Pigs forced to lay around in sh** are not happy pigs. Give them a wading pool with clean water in the shade (so they don’t get sun burned) and then you have a happy porker.

There will be muni fun rides every day that we can fit them in. I want to watch some of the big events like the expert freestyle routines so I won’t be leading any muni rides during those competitions.

There are some good technical trails about 10 to 15 minutes from North Bend. They would rate as advanced rides at a muni weekend. If your definition of H*^A*^R*^D*^C*O^*R^*E^ is long rides on technical rocky rooty trails then you’ll be in heaven.

I need to get on the ball and post trail details (map, trail descriptions, etc.) for the muni fun rides.

According to the Summit at Snoqualmie Web site, the lift will be running
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. But you’ll have to pay for it every day but
August 2. Don’t know how this fits into the otherwise-planned schedules of
rides, but it might gear you more toward downhill stuff on those days…

My understanding is that the Trials courses will be set up at the Snoqualmie
Pass (MUni location).

It’s all in the same place. The big races themselves don’t take up that much
time (but setup sure does), and the Trials courses will probably be open for
the duration.

All of the competitive MUni events are scheduled separate from other
competitions on the schedule. The group rides John Childs and David Maxfield
are setting up are intended as a relief during the rest of the schedule
for people not interested in those activities.

So looks like you’ll want to be there the last three days of UNICON.

The trials courses will be open for fun and practice as soon as they are completed; probably no later than Monday, July 29th at 9AM. If you are interested in helping build the trials courses starting Friday, July 26th, please contact me or Kris Holm.

As David Maxfield has said, all of the MUni competitive events will be held on Friday, August 2nd at the Summit Hiking and Biking Center at Snoqualmie Pass. The cross-country race will be in the morning, at 9AM. The downhill races (both novice and advanced) will be in the afternoon, at 1 PM. The observed trials courses and the uphill course will be open all day, from 9AM to 5PM, with a break from 12PM - 1PM for lunch.

As John Foss said, the Central Express high speed quad will be open to the general public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9AM to 4:30PM starting July 5th. For details, please see: http://www.summitatsnoqualmie.com/summer/summer.html.

The lift will be running from 9AM - 4:30PM on Friday, August 2nd during the MUni competitive events. Riding the lift will be free August 2nd to everybody wearing their UNICON 11 idendification badges.

I’ll be arriving on the 27th. I’d like to help with the construction of the
trials courses. What do you have in mind?

I’m wondering what the chances of having some kind of sound system at the trials section in UNICON might be. It wouldn’t have to be booming but it’d be so cool to have the music to get you in the mood. I have a hard disk full of UNiVERsE type tunes which will be making the trip across the Atlantic with me and I’d be more than happy (way more) to plug my player in somewhere. Just a thought…

Neil and Michael,

We may have the pre-UNICON construction covered. We may have found somebody last night to pre-construct Kris’ requested wooden boxes, etc. Otherwise, we will need volunteers to help build these devices. The idea is to use July 25 - July 28 (Thursday - Sunday) as work days to construct the courses, and to have the trials courses fully open for use on Monday, July 29.

As for the sound system, I’m not sure of the power situation. The trials courses will be near the base of a ski lift. The nearest building is several hundred yards away (metric translation: “not close”). I did not notice any power outlets on my pre-inspection trip a few weeks ago, but I did not have access to the lift control building. A generator may be needed.

On Friday, August 2nd (the competition day), the Summit Hiking and Biking Center at Snoqualmie will be fully open. We will have a better chance on that day to have power, etc.

RE: Unicon trials days

Hi Tom,

I’d be happy to help out on the trials stuff if need be… I can bang in a
nail here and there but that’s about as far as my wood working skills go.

As for power for some music… one possible solution might be if there is an
old car to be used as a trials obstacle that just so happened to have a
cassette player and battery in it. I’m being a bit hopeful here perhaps

Cheers,
Neil
