Is there anyone out there that’s into unicycle archery? Some of us can’t afford horses. Joking aside, it seems kind of like a cool idea.
could be a cool idea. wouldn’t be fun if you UPD though.
when I first joined I got a PM from unichomp asking this same question after I stated that I was into archery. I have yet to try combining the arts but Unichomp said that he did and it was fun. Not sure if he posts anymore, I hope he was not using broad-heads:o .
edit: Nice bow, did you make it yourself? And do you hunt with it?
It doesn’t sound like a good idea especially with a long bow; a compact bow might work as they are easier to pull and would be less cumbersome.
Now im going to have to attempt this all i have is a long bow though.
Edit: unichomp lives closer to me than anyone I have seen on theses forums.
I’ve fired a bow while on a unicycle. It was my Bear compound bow and the arrow (with a field point, Saskatch) went astray from the target. After one shot, I didn’t want to take any more chances of having something happen that I’d later regret.
I tried playing guitar while riding a unicycle once. That didn’t work either.
yeah I was thinking about playing the guitar on mine then I realized that I didn’t know how to play the guitar… I did make $15 cus I played the trombone while riding down the hall in my high school.
I tried a bit of archery whilst stood on solid ground. Bow very simple, probably much like Robin Hood might have used. My arrows also went fairly wildly astray. It was a lot harder than I anticipated. I didn’t expect many golds, but also was annoyed at missing the target completely more than once, and at a fairly short range.
Nao
I found I could even miss hitting the ground.
As a kid I’d fire arrows straight up in the air (keep in mind I lived in the middle of several acres of forest) and if the wind blew too hard, my arrow would be blown into the trees and be caught in the branches.
On a windless day, however, the arrow would return to earth with a satisfying thud and sink a good inch or two into the mud.
What’s that saying about “idle hands” and the devil?
I remember seeing it in a video before… two people idling whilst firing… but I can’t remember what video or where
A long bow would be definitely clumsy, but compact horse bows wouldn’t be bad. The Cupid or gull wing plains bows I do on commission fall between 48 and 56 inches long so they wouldn’t trip ya up as bad as other bows. As goofy as it sounds, I honestly believe that deer hunting on a uni isn’t out of the question: Deer don’t always recognize “Human” if they don’t see walking legs. I’ve riden right through groups of deer on my Rokon and cause they don’t see walking, pay little attention.
Sorry for the double post… I just caught a question: Yup, the bow in the photo is one of my Paddle Bows. I also paint them in bold West Coast Tribal designs… Hupa, Karok, etc. The one in the pic is 64 inches long but my standard length is 66". They’re awesome little bows and I even flight shot a 45 pounder against my 45 pound Bear recurve and the paddle pow out shot it by 10 to 15 yards consistently with a hunting weight arrow with a 145 grain Zwickey broad head. 45 pounds isn’t a heavy bow by any standards, but it was good enough to take a 230 or so pound Russian Boar and a few deer.
Bump
I tried it this afternoon.
Results: fun
Picture:
40-45lbs recurve bow at a distance i forget
used to do archery, couldn’t resist mixing the two
cocking and drawing is pretty hard whilst riding in circles/idling
let alone accurately hitting anything
I imagine shooting compound would be much easier, once you roll the cams over, you’re holding like… 20 0r 25% of the full draw weight?
EDIT: unidunc, that’s a great photo
yup I have recently started shooting my bow while on unicycle and it’s fun but useless I can’t hit more than a 4" grouping and my bow is worth about 1100$$ so falling is not good.
so if i have a cheep bow I guess it could be fun
Pretty cool bow. I gave my compound away several years ago and just stick with the bows, arrows, and stone points I make to hunt with…I’ve never taken a killing shot more than 17 yards and the closest was at 7 feet on the ground. Compounds are cool, but too complicated and being able to “Robin Hood” arrows at 80 yards isn’t really important in my mind… Tagging a deer at close range from a ground sneak with a wooden self bow and a stone point is much more appealing.
Sneaking up on my fence with my first recurve bow while on a unicycle is also very appealing
