Hi. Just checking in after a long absence. I haven’t ridden my unicycle in exactly two years. And it’s been nine months since I logged in here.
Life’s been… interesting. Tried to start a business. Didn’t get it off the ground (someday). Went back to work full-time at my old job at a software company. Working like a maniac, but once again making the “big bucks” (okay, I don’t really need the quotes). Mother had a serious stroke. Took some unpaid time off. Mother back home and recovering (at the typical maddeningly slow pace). Hired a live-in caregiver (for ever bigger bucks). Got behind at work while helping out at home, so now I’m working even more maniacally to make up time I missed (deadline looming for new release of our software).
I was just randomly listening to the They Might Be Giants song about the sun being a mass of incandescent gas and that all the elements in it are in gaseous form. Iron gas? Cool. Made me think of my favorite mad scientist/inventor here on these fora, which led me to log on after a long absence. Hope this finds everyone well.
I can’t believe that the 57UniRider introduction thread is still going! I just got here and haven’t looked around much (yet had the presumption of starting a “me” thread). I’ll spend some time reading and posting. But say hello here if you remember me. I hope all my old (and new, well, new-ish) friends are still here.
And yes, Dave, I’m still driving the speed limit.
P.S. - When did JC become JC&IY? Well, I guess that disambiguates references to the forum vs. references to our favorite answer man for all things technical and otherwise (Mr. JC).

Sorry to hear about your mom, I trust she will keep improving.
As for the speed-limit, I have a confession to make.
We recently aquired a rather spiffy looking Nissan Juke and because it was a good deal, we got the Tekna version (141kw, turbocharged, fun little thing).
While I still drive at the speed-limit while in traffic, I have to admit to occassionally seeking out out-the-way back-roads to have a little fun.
Can’t let the little turbo feel all unloved now, can we?
Hey, Dave, nice to see you back but sorry to hear about your mom. You’d probably feel a lot better if you just started driving faster. As for local employment, you’re always safe knowing Billy. He can get you a happy position at WalMart at any time. What was the business you were trying to launch?
My shin finally healed but you’ll be glad to know that I butchered my elbow practicing wheel walking yesterday without wearing elbow pads. You’ll have to bring your Coker out here to work me over again. Even at 60 I’m staying downright mobile without it attacking me.
Incandescence happens at a pretty low temperature. I don’t think there is anything close to our sun that is cool enough to be incandescent. I think the sun might better be considered luminescent. Ours is mostly helium and hydrogen but whatever small amount of iron is in there is in plasma form, a lot more mobile than a gas.
Dave – several weeks ago I chose to speed for safety reasons. I had to drive my friend’s 23yo son somewhere and I couldn’t bear the thought of putting that kid in so much danger by driving the speed limit. But that was the only time.

On another note, I just realized (looking to the left of my post), that I started unicycling October 18, 2002. Maybe for my ten year anniversary, I should dust off my amazing purple Dave Stockton-custom-built 36er with the aptly-named SHINBURGER pedals and go for a ride for the first time in two years?
You should come around more often! I miss you! I’m sorry to hear about your mom. My 87 year old mom just recently got to the point where she cannot really take care of herself.
