My 13yr old son received an awesome report card a couple weeks ago and decided on a unicycle as a job well done gift. While doing research I came across this site. Props to the people who run it. Really informative. I’m 44 and was thinking how great it would have been to have all this info at my fingertips when I was his age. Oh well hopefully he didn’t bite off more then he can chew and who knows. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl if he lets me and see what happens. I couldn’t offer him much advice on the subject. The closest thing I ever had to a unicycle was one of those unicycles with the arm that stuck out the front with the skateboard truck and wheels on it (basically a backwards tricycle). Not too much of a learning curve with that so any pointers or links would be greatly appreciated. Happy cycling.
Welcome to both of you. youtube is great for helping you get started. Search for “unicycle tutorial” or something similar, and you’ll find a whole bunch of stuff. RelentlessByFate has done some really nice tutorials.
He might want a riding buddy. Maybe you should have gotten 2 unicycles. I ride uni on mountain bike trails with a couple of dads who bring their kids. It’s a fun family activity.
Welcome to the forum
He shouldn’t have much trouble learning. As long as he stays dedicated and understands that it will take a lot of work, it will come to him.
If he really gets into it, you should get one for yourself and you can ride with him. It’s a lot of fun, and should be a good way to bond with your son.
Lastly, welcome to the forums! It’s a great community and hopefully we see you around here a lot.
