uni long jump

Is there any special technique I’m missing in trying to get distance in a rolling hop? I think I can go about 2 feet or so forward, and that’s my limit. I find that if I go slower that I can go further, but that seems counter-intuitive. If I go too fast, I can’t get enough height to go any good distance. If I go slow, I get the height, but not the momentum. I was looking at the Moab MUniFest website and even the novice-division long jump winner went nearly 4 feet. Any suggestions?

Personally, I like a fast run-up and prefer to use my muni. When doing long jump (I’ve recently converted from a sidehop to a rolling hop) I don’t jump very high, so I need the horizontal speed. I’ve been meaning to try a prehop and take some measurements, but haven’t got around to it yet.
